Hello, everyone! My name is Sara. I graduated from Wittenberg University in the fall of 2009 and the following spring I moved to Japan to begin teaching English to school students there. In the spring of 2018, I moved back to the States to be closer to my family, but, my desire to continue teaching English to non-native speakers has not changed.
I love watching my students gain confidence as they try out new things they learned, but I especially like it when students get absorbed in trying to explain something and forget that they are studying a new language! I believe accuracy and building up vocabulary and grammar and very important when learning a new language, but I also emphasize being able to communicate with another person - even if there are some mistakes mixed in. Language is what we use for communication, so even if you have a great understanding of grammar and have memorized a lot of vocabulary, you still need to learn how to communicate your thoughts and ideas in a way others can comprehend. I hope we can work on this together.
