I received a BA (Theatre Arts) and MA (English Education and Curriculum) from Virginia Tech in 2004/2005, respectively. From 2005 to 2007, I taught high school English in VA. In 2007 I continued teaching high school English at an International Baccalaureate (IB) magnet school in Rockville, MD, where I still teach. For the past seven years I have taught honors English in the IB Middle Years Program. For the past three years, I have also taught IB Theatre as part of the IB Diploma Program. Additionally, I have taught AP Language and Composition for the past six years. Outside of my regular teaching job, for the past seven years I have taught in private enrichment programs (both classes and one-on-one tutoring) focusing on SAT and ACT prep, as well as magnet test prep, creative writing, and advanced essay writing. In my tutoring, I work with students of all ages. I am also currently working with Learnerator.com to develop ACT Reading test prep questions for their online test prep site.

I took freshman English and IB Theatre with Mrs. Hashem-Liles. She really goes out of her way to make sure that her students are engaged and interested in the material. Her dedication to her students and her passion for education are clear. As a freshman, she showed me that anyone's writing can be improved (no matter how good you think you are!) As a senior, she became a mentor and guide, especially in theatre. I consistently left her class thinking that I had learned something new and interesting. Sometimes I wish I could go back to high school, if only to take her class again! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor, as she is willing and eager to take the time needed to help all of her students.

Had her as a teacher for AP English Language. She was super awesome at not only getting the material across but also at getting the other students and I engaged and excited about the class.

Aside from being a lovely person, Sara helped me learn to write effective, well-composed papers by breaking the process down and shattering the concept that writing an essay has to be a daunting experience. I still cherish the enthusiasm she brought as an educator, and continually find myself applying some of the writing/analytical techniques I learned with her to my collegiate assignments.
