Hello, I'm Sammy!
Making music is one of my favorite things to do. I believe that music is for everyone and lessons are about you, the student. So we can tailor your lessons to whatever you need. Whether you're a beginner, playing/learning for fun, or looking to enhance your playing, I can help you! If my availability does not match up with yours, reach out to me anyway; maybe we can work something out!
I am a graduate of the music program at University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) where I studied cello and music theory with the Arianna String Quartet. During my time there, I played cello in the university orchestra and in some other smaller groups. I played one season with the Oregon East Symphony and I have played at several church services in the St. Louis area. Currently, I am freelancing and performing with the UMSL Cello Choir.
I also enjoy watching Netflix, cooking, hiking, and eating Indian food.
I play cello in church services, weddings, and etc.
I was a volunteer with Americorps, serving as the music teacher in a rural community in Eastern Oregon. I taught general music, grades K-12, as well as after-school private lessons and group lessons on several different instruments.
Taught 30-minute private cello lessons.
Observed 4th and 5th grade strings classes. Observed after-school honors orchestras. Led cello sectionals and conducted said orchestras.
AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.
AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
I am older starting cello. Sammy is very patient and I am enjoying the lessons.
Sammy is a great instructor, I am looking so forward to my next session.
Thomas and Sammy connected right away. Thomas had a terrible experience last year and following that, wouldn't even pick up his cello without proadding and arguing. This afternoon he picked up his cello and started playing the minute he got home from school. Yea! Prayer answered!+ Read More
I have known Sammy over a year as a cello teacher. He is knowledgable, kind and an all around great teacher! Recommend him highly!
Sammy and his wife Amy did a wonderful job teaching beginning cello, violin and viola students at the Summer Strings Music Camp in Pendleton, of which I was the Director July 23-27. They worked hard to prepare interesting, innovative and creative methods to teach rhythms, note-reading and beginning orchestra to 13 students ranging in age from 5 - 11. I was very impressed with their final orchestra presentation at the final concert of Camp July 27th!+ Read More
