    About Ryan T.

Aloha Everyone. I'm born and raised in the islands Hawaii and decided to further my education in music by moving to Los Angeles, California. I' m a graduate of Musicians Institute's G.I.T program where I received my Associates Degree as well as the "Most Improved Student" award. I've played in various situations ranging from Big Bands, Smooth Jazz Quartet, Rhythm/ Lead for RnB, Funk and Blues bands, Musicals and Cruise Ship gig's. So many beautiful music revolves around Jazz/Blues playing and I really enjoy teaching in this style as well. Having a good music feel in these genres will absolutely improve your internal musical groove which can only add to those tasty soulful licks. I'm very open minded to and love all styles of music, and as a teacher, I can help you have a solid foundation of the basics as well as a groove that's inviting to other players. *** Lesson Details *** I'm a very relaxed teacher and very open minded as well. My goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible so you can relax, ask questions, take in the lesson, reach your goals and most of all, have fun while doing so. A lot of my teaching is derived out of the Musicians Institute curriculum. I really believe that having a great foundation of the basics is very important and when achieved, learning technique, scales, theory and other interests will be much faster naturally. After 3 months of lessons, you will have a good foundation the basics, as well as music theory, music reading, a practice schedule to keep you both improving and inspired, a good feel for rhythm and single note playing and ways to have fun on your instrument. On top of that, we will be working on subjects you're interested in and working on ways to improve on that specific subject. I keep an open minded lesson and I'm interested in anything and everything your interested in and curious about. My goal is to help you make music through your instrument. *** Studio Equipment *** Recording Equipment: - M -Audio interface. - Logic Pro 9 - MXL 603 S Mic - M -Audio BX5 monitors Guitars: - PRS SE Model - Squier relic Strat - White Mexican Strat - Takamine G series Acoustic Guitar - Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitar Misc. - Music stands - Music graphs/ staff paper/ etc. - Tuner, cables and misc. accessories *** Travel Equipment *** I provide: -Electric/Acoustic Guitar if needed -Music Stand -Staff Papers, pencils, sheet music, etc. -Tuner and cables. Students should provide: -Their choice of electric or acoustic guitar and an amp for electric guitar. *** Specialties *** Majority of my teaching style is out of the Musicians Institute curriculum, and I like to focus on having a great rhythm/lead feel as well as having a solid foundation. I focus a lot on Jazz, R n B, Funk, Rock and Blues. I also enjoy using concepts, for example. If you play a major scale in the 5th position of the guitar, its a great concept to stay in that same position and play the major scale through the cycle of 5th s. This helps to understand the fret board more, makes you use your brain, you go through all key center and its fun. Little things and concepts can bring the repetitive practicing back to life and inspire new questions in the student.
