I believe that an encouraged student is a successful student! I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for over 20 years, and believe that anyone can have FUN learning to play the drums. As a teacher, I can give you the tools, technique, and confidence to achieve your drumming goals, whatever they might be. Whether you're just starting out or picking drums up again after a hiatus, I will work with you to create a customized curriculum to help you unlock your full potential. Drums are one of the most fun instruments to learn, and I am adept at performing and teaching all styles, from rock to jazz to everything in between.

I have played as a substitute drummer in the orchestra of the Off-Broadway show "Jersey Boys," and have also backed up Adam Pascal ("RENT," "Aida"), Christine Ohlman (vocalist for the Saturday Night Live Band), and Carolee Carmello ("The Addams Family," "Mamma Mia!"). I have also appeared on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" as a musician extra. When not performing, I play for dance classes at Marymount Manhattan College, Paul Taylor Dance School, and Mark Morris Dance School.

I received my M.M. in Jazz Studies from William Paterson University, my B.M. in Performance from Berklee College of Music, and I am a member of the Vic Firth Education Team.

About Ryan M.

I am a professional drummer who has been teaching students of all ages and backgrounds for nearly 20 years. I have performed as a drum substitute on the Off-Broadway show "Jersey Boys," and have also backed up singers Adam Pascal ("RENT," "Aida"), Christine Ohlman (The Saturday Night Live Band), and Carolee Carmello ("The Addams Family," "Mamma Mia!"). My jazz group was an opening act for such artists as Dr. Eddie Henderson, Sheila Jordan, and Toshiko Akyoshi as part of the William Paterson University Jazz Room series from 2012-2014. I have also accompanied dance classes for Paul Taylor Dance School, Mark Morris Dance School, and Marymount Manhattan College. I have also appeared as a musician extra on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert."

As a teacher, I believe that EVERYONE has a sense of rhythm waiting to be unlocked. Whether you are a beginner just starting out, an aspiring professional, or just looking to have a fun hobby in your life, I can design a customized curriculum that will help you achieve your goals. With a solid foundation in technique, reading, and musical styles, anything is possible. Truly, an encouraged student is a successful student, and we can all learn if we are motivated.

I studied technique extensively with Chuck Brown (drum teacher to Terry Bozzio, David Garibaldi, and Michael Shrieve), earned an M.M. in Jazz Studies from William Paterson University, and a B.M. from Berklee College of Music. I am a member of the Vic Firth Education Team, and can't wait to teach YOU!
