In addition to being a piano, drum, and music software teacher for over a decade, I also work as a composer and sound designer for video games. As someone who had a lot of great teachers growing up, I think it's important to emphasize the fun in learning an instrument, instead of only focusing on technical skills or music theory (though those are big too).
There's no point in taking lessons if you don't like what you're learning. To that end, my specialty is in creating a lesson plan that revolves around getting you the skills you need to perform the music you want to play. Here are just a few examples of the kinds of pieces I've helped students learn in the past:
-I've taught students a ton of Hollywood's best movie scores on piano; everything from Pirates of the Caribbean to The Avengers. Even The Exorcist, if you're down to get scary!
-I've helped students learn the ins and outs of ear training by teaching them how to play their favorite anime theme songs from memory alone.
-Like classical or jazz? I've shown people how to shred on everything from Chopin to Count Basie.
-Video game nerd (like me)? There are a ton of amazing soundtracks in games, and I've taught many students how to play songs from Zelda, Halo, and Final Fantasy, as well as indie games like Undertale and Journey.
-Want to be that guy/girl that can bang out awesome Karaoke jams at parties? I've taught people to play hits by Lady Gaga, Journey, 21 Pilots, and many more.
I've worked with kids and adults from beginner to advanced, so no matter what your age, background or skill level, I'd love to meet you and chat about what you want to get out of learning music.
I avoided the piano after I experienced a bad teacher when I was young, but Ryan made me excited to learn again. He is fun and encouraging, patient with my learning style, and makes me feel accomplished with everything I achieve. I cannot recommend him highly enough!+ Read More
Ryan is an incredible teacher! He is very patient and understanding and helped me break down learning some songs and theory in a way that made sense and was easy to digest. His humor and gentle personality made me feel very comfortable and made some seemingly difficult exercises seem way easier and less scary. I eagerly look forward to lessons with him, and highly recommend him as a teacher!+ Read More
Ryan is easily the best piano teacher I've ever had. His approach goes far beyond just learning standard classical pieces. He listens to what you want to learn, creates custom arrangements, and makes sure that you're having fun every step of the way. I can't recommend taking lessons with Ryan highly enough.+ Read More
