Greetings! My name is Ryan and I'd love to be a part of your journey in music! I have been a musician my whole life (I'm 38 yrs. old), coming from a very musical family, I've had some sort of sound making device at arms reach since I was a child. I've played in many bands, ensembles and theater productions, from Pop to Rock and Jazz, and studied Jazz Performance on Bass and Piano at the University of Colorado, Denver. I love teaching, and have a wealth of experience in creating a curriculum with students and parents which fits their specific aptitude, practice schedule, and desired results. Looking forward to hearing from you!
As a freelance keys and bass player, I record and play live for-hire as needed by project and producer. I am very involved in Austin's theater and performing arts communities, and work regularly as an accompanist at The ZACH (Merlin Works School), The Hideout Theater (Big Bash, Maestro!), and a handful of others. I play live in a number of bands, ranging from original writing and Rock and Roll, to full Jazz ensembles and Broadway reviews. I also continue to teach as often as possible, online, in-home, and in my home studio.+ Read More
As a keys player and Music Director at Voodoo, I lead various musical improvisation casts through vocal practice, song structure and scene development. I also performed piano accompaniment in weekly company shows.
As a teacher at Globalsound, I created and taught individual lessons on piano, bass, guitar, drums and composition, for all ages and levels, and also conducted and arranged many of the summer camp "Academy of Rock" bands.
Studied Theory and Performance on Piano as well as Upright and Electric Bass.
Ryan was the first instructor who made piano make sense. I'd tried three times before to get into piano and it just wasn't happening. Ryan took concepts and techniques that I'd notoriosly and historically struggled with and broke them down for me. Each lesson was completely personalized and if I had a particularly challenging week of practice, we would dive into the exercises and ideas even more deeply -- rather than just say "ok" and move on.
Ryan is a great instructor, explainer, and communicator -- very knowledgable, well-humored, and genuinely interested in his students' success. It was great to see someone who has taught for so long be so enthusiastic about my progress. His attitude and experience are what made the difference for me this time around.
If you're looking to get started on piano or develop your playing in any regard, Ryan can draw you a map to get there and guide you every step of the way. Go for it, you'll have a great time and honestly surprise yourself with how much you can learn and improve.
Excellent lesson., Ryan is very professional, explaining the purpose of each assignment, having a notebook for the instructions, and focusing on the student's desires during the lesson. I am very excited by his enthusiasm and look forward to my lessons. I couldn't wait to practice after he left, even succeeding at part of the assignment that I had doubts I could complete.+ Read More
Ryan was a great teacher. We really knows how to tailor your lesson to exactly what you want and need to learn. I really liked his teaching style and how he introduces theory as part of your basic fundamentals. I really enjoyed my time with Ryan and would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking to learn Piano+ Read More
Great instructor, specially for young kids. He is very friendly and has a lot of patience. Very good relationship since first moment.
My lessons with Ryan have been fantastic. I have been playing the keyboard for a few years casually, and we have been studying both music theory and piano in parallel, which I would recommend for anyone looking to learn theory or piano. On the keyboard, Ryan's expertise shines through in his approach to technique and awareness of the mechanical skills necessary to play musically. Most importantly, he always places emphasis on leading me where I want to go. When I've had an insane week at work and can't put the pressure of practice on myself, he has always been willing to help me relax through jamming while still teaching me important theory and application lessons. I also want to mention how friendly and approachable Ryan is. If, like me, you want an understanding instructor who knows his craft (we're working up to the nuances of jazz) inside and out, I couldn't recommend Ryan more.+ Read More
He's the best! The kids have come very far ! They enjoy playing piano even outside of the lessons! He works with the kids and teaches to what they want to learn.
Ryan has been teaching me classical piano for about a month now, and I couldn't be happier with his teaching style. I'm an intermediate student, who took more than 20 years off, and had forgotten most of my theory lessons. Ryan is patient, professional, and very knowledgeable. Ryan makes it possible for my brain to actually understand theory.
I highly recommend Ryan. He's the type of piano teacher who is there to help and not just earn a paycheck.
Thank you, Ryan, for making it possible for me to like piano lessons again.
