I began studying the guitar in a high school class, and continued to teach myself classical guitar through most of high school. I have been studying with a private teacher for 4 years; most recently Martha Masters, one of the premier performers and pedagogues today. I study at Loyola Marymount University, and I am in my 4th and final year there. I have tutored students and given lessons to beginning guitarists, and I am qualified to teach at most levels of popular and classical guitar playing.
*** Lesson Details ***
I prefer not to try and fit each student into the same mold, as physically and mentally, every musician is different. I choose to treat all my students as musicians, and musicality is emphasized just as much as technique. In the space of a few months, I will impart a lifelong appreciation of music as well as the skills necessary to pursue music on one's own, or to continue with me to a more advanced level of playing. I generally teach from a few standard technical books: Frederick Noad's beginning guitar books, Pumping Nylon by Scott Tennant, and several sheet music and sight reading books.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a foot stool and music stand. I expect the student to provide a guitar and music, if required.
*** Specialties ***
I've studied extensively some of the music of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and his relationship to Andres Segovia. I have studied a few Bach guitar transcriptions and am familiar with some aspects of baroque performance practice.
