Looking to learn piano? Start learning today with an experienced pianist and teacher!

As a piano teacher, I am very open to students' musical goals and assist them in working toward them step by step. I work with what motivates my students to learn. I am very patient and teach my students to be patient with the process so that learning music can become a life-long pursuit. Schedule: Each student is assigned a designated lesson time each week (half-hour, 45 min, or hour slots). Students are expected to be punctual to ensure full lesson time. Materials: Students will need lesson books and must have them ready for each lesson. The preferred methods to start are Piano Adventures by Faber, All-in-one course by Alfred or Bastien Piano Basics. Please provide a folder or binder to hold additional sheet music, assignment sheets, theory papers, etc. Links to order piano books, sheet music or music theory flashcards will be sent to students prior to their first lesson and may be ordered via Amazon online. Practicing: Daily practice should become a habit. Students are expected to practice 4 days a week minimum for at least 15-30 minutes. For students under the age of 18, parental encouragement and support regarding careful and consistent practice is essential if rapid progress is to be made. I look forward to sharing the joys of music with you!

You want to learn to play the piano? Then, Ruth is the one you want! I’ve never played the piano before now and Ruth has been there with me, patiently teaching me and guiding me. Now, I can play tunes I even recognize and it’s a lot of fun! I think you’re gonna like her.

I am a 61 year old retired teacher, and I have been been taking weekly lessons with Ruth for the past 8 months as a beginner student. She is an excellent teacher showing lots of patience and encouragement. She makes learning the piano a fun and challenging experience. Together we set weekly goals for my playing that keep me progressing and improving at a steady rate. I would highly recommend Ruth for both children and adults.

    Piano Teacher

    Sep, 2007 - Present

The Ancona School | Offbeat Music Studio | Piano Trends

I am a driven, professional music teacher with experience in piano instruction across versatile student groups and classroom settings. In addition, my qualifications include a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education and Music Performance from Millikin University. In addition to takelessons.com, my most recent and current positions are in piano and vocal instruction at The Ancona School, Offbeat Music, Piano Trends and Avanti Music Academy. During the course of my teaching experience, I have always strived to help my students achieve their highest potential. There is nothing more fulfilling for the student and the teacher alike than seeing improvement and elevating the level of skill in music performance. In the different types of classroom settings, I maintain a productive environment, while remaining approachable to my students for discussions about their music advancement. My communication skills enable me to easily connect with students, parents and colleagues. Thanks to my educational training at Millikin, I am comfortable with teaching not only musical concepts but also performance, reading and aural skills. My educational background has given me a solid understanding of teaching music and my on-the-job training has provided the experience of working with students of all ages and abilities. Working one-on-one with students or in groups, I utilize various methods or styles and prepare students for performance by organizing and facilitating recitals or performance opportunities.
