My name is Roy, I am a cellist and former public school music teacher from the mainland. I earned my Bachelor’s of Music Education, Cum Laude, from Eastern Michigan University in 2014. Following graduation, I taught 5th-12th grade orchestra in Evansville, Indiana for four years. While teaching in Evansville, my ensembles regularly earned gold ratings at district festivals as well as Solo and Ensemble Contest. I also led cello sectionals for both middle and high school Honors Orchestra. After getting married in 2018 my family was presented with the amazing opportunity of moving to Maui. Since then I have been working for the Wailuku Post Office.
Now that I am finally settled in, I am excited to get back to teaching cello. I maintain a low-pressure teaching style that is student-oriented and founded in Suzuki’s Every Child Can Philosophy. I have played cello for the University of Evansville, the University of Findlay, Heidelberg University, the University of Southern Indiana, the Bowling Green Symphony, The Firelands Symphony, the Perrysburg Symphony, the Croswell Opera House, and many public schools/churches in NW Ohio and SE Michigan.
