    About Roland S.

My first influences were the classic rock of Jimi Hendrix and Cream, and old school blues like John Lee Hooker. In high school I joined the award winning Skyline Jazz Band, which, combined with having studied with Mr. Kahil Shaheed and other fantastic teachers at Oaktown Jazz, sparked my love and interest for jazz. Today, I play in several bands, including "Anewabyss", an instrumental progressive rock trio, and "The Rogers" alternative country, "The Blake Langdale band", among others, and gig and teach throughout the Bay Area. I specialize in teaching blues, jazz, metal, music theory, guitar techniques such as 8-finger tapping, sweep picking, and slide guitar. Contact me and I will help you find a quick and logical path to your musical goals. *** Lesson Details *** In our first lesson I will ask you three questions: "Where are you at as player right now?" "How do you think you learn best?" and "Where do you hope to be in the next year?" We will then try and formulate a strategy together as to how to reach your musical goals. I will always adapt my teaching style to the specific student because as a teacher, I understand that everybody learns differently and it's the teachers job to help the student along with whatever their learning style may be. *** Studio Equipment *** The studio is a 30-year old rehearsal space that is well-known in Oakland. The space includes private rehearsal rooms, which include seating and instruments (acoustic guitars). Students are expected to bring their own guitar. *** Specialties *** I specialize in rock, blues jazz and country. I also teach specific guitar techniques including, sweep picking, 8 finger tapping, alternate picking, legato.I also teach basic to advanced music theory, music notation reading, ear training and slide guitar.
