I am originally a self-taught musician, picking up piano and guitar on my own at the age of 13. In high school, I studied music theory and sound engineering formally, and often helped my fellow students understand their lessons and learn their repertoire. Since then, I have been lucky enough to make music my full-time endeavor, working as a recording engineer and session player for other artists, playing in live bands, and teaching private lessons to students of all ages.
I have a deep love for music in all its forms, and I love to inspire that feeling in others. I strive to teach every student that they are in control of their own musical progress - I can show them the information they need to further understand a topic, but it is up to them to internalize and strengthen that understanding. With this approach, I try to instill a sense of ownership to a student's musical abilities, resulting in a growing interest in learning and mastering their art.
I customize my lessons, working with the student to meet their individual goals, while at the same time offering my perspective of their abilities and aspirations. I like to give beginning students a basic understanding of music theory right in the beginning, so that they can immediately begin to understand the patterns and relationships within the notes they play or sing.
*** Lesson Details ***
I am encouraging, patient, and pleasant in my lessons. I try to make my students understand that mistakes are not embarrassing flukes or failures on their part, but simply a part of the process of learning. The art of identifying and correcting your mistakes is a key part of progressing as a musician.
I prepare my lessons individually for each student, providing them with exercise material they will enjoy practicing and songs they want to learn. I encourage students to ask questions and tell me what skills they want to develop, but also offer my own perspective to them to encourage a well-rounded musical foundation.
My ultimate goal is to teach the joy of creating music. Music is an infinitely rewarding art form, and I love to inspire excitement and confidence in a student who may have been uncertain about his or her abilities.

It took me a while to understand Robbie's approach, but having 3 lessons under my belt, I am very thankful that he is my instructor. Thanks Robbie.
Robert loves to teach music
Robert has been a great instructor for my son. My son learned a lot of new techniques from Robert.
Already in a band!
I started with Rob four months ago. I had taken piano for several years before my mom found Rob. All the instruments Rob offered were interesting, so I began them all! In this short time, he has enabled me to not only begin new instruments but he also taught me to play with others. My brother takes lessons from Rob as well. Despite having different personalities, Rob teaches us both in a way that makes it fun for each of us. Rob can quickly teach me how to play whatever instrument I need to play for my band that week in whatever key is necessary. I am getting good at it. This week, I transposed easier music for my brother. Rob helped me compose a drum solo for a school program that I cannot wait to play next month.
Cant ask for a better teacher
I have been taking lessons under Rob for about 3 months now and I would say my experience has never been lesser than a WOW. Rob is very patient in explaining music theory, very accommodating in terms of schedule (I have to travel a lot at work) and the classes are very interactive. He makes me think rather than him telling me what is right to play. The classes brings out the creative side of me. I couldnt thank Rob more for enriching my knowledge :-)
Very good teacher
Took lessons with Robert for about 6 weeks (I had to stop for schedule/financial changes). He's very knowledgeable and communicative, and just fun to play guitar with. I already felt like I was a pretty solid electric guitarist, but Robert was able to show me how much more there is to learn. He listens to what you're interested in learning, and typically follows up lessons with an email with additional info and tips. Good equipment in his home studio. Could be a bit more organized, but I always felt like our lessons had some direction and never felt like he came unprepared, even when I was. Highly recommend him for anyone from beginner to intermediate (I now consider myself intermediate even though I previously assumed I was advanced).
My son loves his lessons and wants more
My son is happy with Robert and want to add Bass lesson to the vocals
I've had 4 lessons with Robert so far. I'm really happy with what he's teaching and my progress.
What a great experience!
Rob is great. I couldn't ask for a better teacher. My son started a about a month and a half ago with him. My son Jackson just turned six and I have to say I very impressed with how great Rob is with him. He is patient and keeps the lessons interesting for him. He knows how to keep my son focused and is able to teach at a pace that has helped my son to not only learn but want to continue to learn the guitar!
