Understanding basic theory, modes, intervals, key-signatures, etc. allows you to communicate with other players. These skills will make you a more confident player and better composer. I'll go over why things work the way they do and promote an understanding of the instrument --rather than tedious mnemonics and memorizing for the sake of memorizing.

I play several instruments and have an affinity for avant-garde music or genre hybrids. Heavy music is especially fun for the integration of styles. I am also versed in Jazz and playing from a Fake Book.

Learn your Instrument!

Know what you are playing, why you are playing it, what works and what doesn't work. Military-style drills of musical theory and aptitude circa Home Movie's "Guitarmageddon" episode (YouTube) will be solicited ad hoc... Not really, only if you're into that sort of thing.
