The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

MMEA seeks to support comprehensive, quality music education for all students, through advocacy, professional development, and a commitment to lifelong learning. The purpose of MMEA is to: Advocate and promote the advancement of music education through the schools of the Commonwealth and other educational institutions or organizations; Provide enrichment opportunities in music for students through District and All-State honor groups; Secure greater recognition for music as an integral part of the school curriculum, Encourage music activities among the schools of the Commonwealth by means of festivals, clinics, and other related events, Promote professional growth among its members.
