Improve Your Japanese: Engaging Lessons with a Native Japanese Tutor

Maximize your Japanese learning with a native speaker with years of teaching experience! I tailor my lessons to each student's learning style, her/his needs and goals. I use Genki 1 and 2 textbooks and workbooks with most of my beginner to intermediate level students, unless other textbooks and/or learning resources are requested. During the lesson, my focus is generally on the grammar explanations and practice, as well as reading, and speaking practice. Homework is assigned after each lesson, and students are expected to work independently on vocabulary building, unless otherwise requested. I encourage all of my students to contact me between lessons if they have any questions, and I will try to answer them within 24 hours. I am currently accepting students ages 16 and up. I am looking forward to meeting you! ❗️Cancellation, reschedule and late policy ❗️ 1. Lesson cancellation and rescheduling must be requested at least 8 hours before the scheduled lesson starts. Without an 8-hour notice, you will be charged for the lesson, regardless of the reasons. 2. If you cannot attend your lessons for two or more consecutive weeks, your time slot may be given to another student. If you wish to resume lessons with me but your original time slot has been filled, please contact me. 3. If you realize you will be late for your lesson, please contact me as soon as possible by text or email. I will wait until you log in, but I cannot extend the duration of your lesson. No refund will be given for the time you missed. Please remember that by signing up for lessons with me, you will be agreeing to all of the above.

こんにちは!りえと申します。 Hello! My name is Rie. I have been teaching Japanese since 2010. My past and present students are from many different countries, including the U.S., China, Taiwan, India, Israel, Italy, and Croatia and range from 9 to 75 years old. I have taught students, educators, business professionals, sports professionals, health care providers, artists, military personnel, and many others from all walks of life, and whether it is getting good grades, becoming proficient before their trips to Japan, or simply wanting to learn a new language, I have loved helping them reach their goals. I am an extremely patient and conscientious person and my teaching style is friendly, fun, and flexible. I tailor my lessons to each student's learning style, their needs and goals. I encourage all of my students to contact me between lessons if they have any questions, and I will try to respond within 24 hours. I am originally from Kure, which is about 20 miles southeast of Hiroshima. I went to Tsuda College in Tokyo and earned a degree in International Relations in 1986. I then moved to the U.S. and earned a master's degree in Library and Information Studies from University of California at Berkeley. I have worked in public, academic, and government libraries in various capacities both in Japan and the U.S. More recently I have worked at a local high school, supporting thousands of high school students and their parents. I am currently accepting students ages 14 and up. I am looking forward to meeting you!

Fantastic teacher who is willing to work with students of all levels. I'm a Japanese American who is mostly fluent in Japanese, but struggles with formal speech and writing. Rei-san has looked for keigo centered workbook drills, and catered the lessons to my business Japanese needs. I can tell that I'm slowly improving. Other than being a wonderful teacher, she is just a fun person to chat with. I greatly enjoy working with her!
