Drawing is essential to becoming a skilled artist. Careful observation, practicing dividing light and dark, hand-eye-pencil coordination, and learning basic shapes and forms will all vastly improve the more information you soak in. How many times have we heard someone say "I couldn't draw a stick figure." Well, it's just not true that those of us who were not born with innate talent can never make works of art of the highest quality. It just takes time and work. The more information we acquire, the brighter the light bulb will go off in our heads.

I've created a 20 minute lesson option so that our first meeting we can chat about your existing supplies and work area. For lessons after our initial meeting, and after you have acquired the necessary materials, then we'll need a full hour for demos, exercises, and art history.

About Rick S.

Hello friends!

Well,... it's a surprise that I'm writing this introduction at all to be honest. I had been traveling since last July and working on my yt channel called 'An Easel Abroad', when this crazy pandemic swept the world and forced me back home to New York City. The good news is that I have plenty of time to paint and continue my personal art education in isolation, and since online learning/teaching has become all the rage, I figured I'd give it a go.

I truly enjoy painting, and I'm excited to share the things I've learned over the years with you.

A little about me: I'm 37 yrs old, I'm from Pittsburgh, I've lived in NYC for 15 years, having received my B.F.A at Savannah College of Art and Design in 2004. After wandering creatively for many years, and working full time at a television network, I decided to focus full time on painting, and so I began training informally with the New York Art Students League as well as in the private studio of a highly regarded teacher in Brooklyn. Nearly 9 years of total training has given me insight, not simply in learning to paint and draw, but also into how one can find long lasting joy in creativity.

More of my work may be found at my site ricksecen.com.

Thank you for your interest, and I hope you are all safe and comfortable in these strange times!
