    About Richard M.

Learning guitar has been the greatest joy in my life. I remember when I decided to study with my first real teacher. I knew I had found somebody who could teach me all I wanted to learn from the guitar. I jumped in and never looked back and I have had a wonderful life of performing, writing music, and teaching guitar, music theory and ear training. I am a teacher that can take you as far as you want to go and I can help you from the beginning by setting you on a course of effortless mastery. I am sure of this because not only do I love to play music, but I also love to teach and I have found ways to help students understand and have fun while learning. Whether you want to learn for a pastime or to follow your dream or a career in music, I am available to help you. I am a classically trained Brazilian guitarist. My name does not give it away but I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro and I specialize in all Latin American styles, Brazilian music in particular, and within that I focus on choro music. In fact I just published a book called “The Guitar in the Brazilian Choro,” (available on Amazon). I tour regularly with my group Choro da Manhã and we are recording a CD this summer. I have played and taught many different styles: classical, jazz, folk, Latin American, rock, blues. I can teach you to learn quickly by ear and by reading music.
