Hello, my name is Richard. I love all things music, but my primary areas of focus are Piano and Music Literacy and Theory. My musical journey began when I was 6 years old, shortly after my grandparent's piano came to reside in my parents' home. I began piano lessons during that summer after first grade. By the time I was in junior high, my teacher thought I was ready for a more advanced teacher, and so I began taking lessons from someone who had traveled to Europe to study music. In college, I continued my musical journey, graduating in 2002 with a Bachelors in Church Music with a Piano Principal and again in 2004 with a Masters in the same. *** Lesson Details *** My philosophy in music is that everyone can learn to be musical if they truly want to be. I work hard to find the inner musician in people, giving advice and assistance when needed but also trying to let each person grow to be their own musician too. As a teacher, I am flexible and easy-going, but I also expect my students to be actively involved in the learning process. Practicing at home between lessons is essential for us to make the most of our lessons together. *** Travel Equipment *** For piano lessons, I expect students to have a regular piano available. For music and music theory lessons, a keyboard instrument (electronic, piano, or organ) would be very helpful, but not required.
