My name is Reed and I cant wait to drum with you!
I love helping students learn and refine their skills. I especially enjoy working with beginner students to help them with their school ensembles, concerts, and auditions. I am a graduate of Bloomsburg University with a bachelors degree in Music focused on percussion performance and audio recording. I currently teach a high school percussion ensemble.
Beginner students: We will work on understanding basic drumming technique and music skills. How to hold the stick, the basic stroke, counting, reading rhythms, rudiments etc. We will work on exercises from Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone as well as exercises of my own to build fundamental skills. I am very flexible and will tailor your lesson to your exact needs. If you are starting from scratch, don't worry, we will get there together.
Intermediate students: We will work on adding the next level to your drumming. This includes honing the fundamentals, targeting and improving technique issues, focusing more on your sound, learning more complex rudiments and exercises, etc. We will work on the Stick Control book and etudes from Portraits in Rhythm by Anthony Cirone and/or Fundamental Studies for the Snare Drum by Garwood Whaley.
For students wanting extra help for marching band, concert band, or auditions: I will tailor your lesson to bring you the most success for your audition/performance etc.
I do not require students to have a drum set nor do I teach drum set lessons. Students only need a pair of sticks, a drum pad, and a metronome to get started. I teach a rudimental style that is focused entirely on technique and increasing the ability of the hands. You will learn drumming techniques and music skills that you can apply to all styles of drumming (hand drums, drum set, etc).
I look forward to drumming with you!

I wanted to get better at playing rudiments to prepare for an audition. Reed was nice, patient and he really knows his stuff! I would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn how to drum!
