    About Rebecca M.

I believe that anyone can learn and love music! All it takes is a spark of desire and some hard work. Students of all ages, skill level, and experience are welcome! I tailor my teaching style uniquely for each individual student, and my goal is to help you cultivate your love for music, set personal goals, explore the classical (and beyond) repertoire, build and maintain the fundamentals, and equip you with all the tools you need to express yourself with music! Expectations will be suited according to each student’s personal desires, taste, and level. While I specialize in classical-era music, I also have experience in church music and contemporary/folk. I always encourage both myself and my students to explore beyond the classical repertoire to diversify their skills and abilities. Whenever necessary, I supplement with music theory, ear training, and sight reading. Beyond violin playing itself, I believe that fluency in reading and hearing sheet music is a key step to internalizing a deep understanding of musical relations, and therefore to accessing any genre of music desired! I encourage staying in touch throughout the week, as I am always willing to offer additional help, answer questions, help solve problems, in between lessons! I am currently a senior at the Cleveland Institute of Music, completing my Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance with Dr. Olga Dubossarskaya Kaler. I have been playing for 15 years, and especially enjoy playing chamber music, orchestra, and teaching. I have competed and placed in numerous international competitions, such as the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition, WDAV Chamber Music Competition, St. Paul Chamber Music Competition, and have been featured on NPR's radio show "From the Top." I have attended numerous international summer festivals, such as the Chautauqua Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, and Bowdoin Music Festival. Additionally, I have traveled to Ireland, Scotland, and Italy to perform solo and orchestral. I regularly perform solo recitals in the Chicago area and Cleveland. In my free time, I love to read philosophy, theology, cook, bake, and craft!
