Master Degree in Music Performance from The University of Arizona
Bachelor Degree in Music Performance San Francisco Conservatory of Music
I have performed in various concert halls and events in the US and over seas. Recently I have been playing flamenco guitar in various dance studios and workshops in Los Angeles. I have been teaching private lessons for a local music school for several years and part time staff at a local University.
I am dedicated teacher and love helping people achieve their musical goals.
*** Lesson Details ***
You can expect a patient teacher who is fairly laid back, but I take music and teaching very seriously. Teaching is my career choice not a temporary job. I try to let my students set the pace of learning, and coach them in arriving to the level they want to reach.
In a typical lesson rhythm/musicality, right n left hand technique, and some type of theory will be taught. In a three to six month period you will be able to play some of the music you love and be able to play melodies by ear on your own. Since children and adults learn differently I use the appropriate style based on age and ability.
*** Studio Equipment ***
living room w/ full length electric piano w/ seating for parents
*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a guitar, chair, music stand, metronome and tuner.
Students should have the same and something to tune their guitar for daily practice. I also have the literature for teaching, but do expect students to get the book we agree upon for study. The only exception could be in Flamenco which is a style not traditionally taught by book.
*** Specialties ***
Pop, Rock, Flamenco, Classical, and Acoustic styles are my specialties and learning to read music on guitar or beginning piano. Teaching to Sing and Play at the same time on guitar.
Generally I use the Carl Orff method: breaking down and vocalizing the rhythm and melody with solfege singing.
Guitar Literature such as Fredrick Noad book 1 to learn to read on guitar
Segovia scale patterns and Mauro Giuliani's 120 Right Hand Studies for technique
Scott Tennant's Pumping Nylon is good for intermediate or older students
