I am awardee of Fulbright Scholar in Residence to University of North Texas. I have made my students up-to the level of Stage performance, without viewing the sheet music( Memorized) lessons. I have also bamboo flutes for students to practice whenever needed .Versatile flautist Dr.Surmani.R.K.Srinivasan ranks among the country’s leading flutists and hailing from a family with a musical background, Srinivasan was initially trained by his father,Vidwan Srirangam R.Kannan,a Carnatic musician and Professor at the Banaras Hindu University. He had his training in flute from M.Nataraja Iyer and in the Hindustani system,he had Pt.C.L.Srivastava, Padmashri N.Rajam and Pt.Jotin Bhattacharya for his guidance.The logical progression of phrases from the mandra to the tara sthayi with a reposeful and melodic development is the novelty of Srinivasan’s performance of both Carnatic and Hindustani Flute in the same stage. The longer flute which he use, produce a warm, mellow sound which was soothing to the ears. He utilizes to advantage some of the strong points of Hindustani music-ample room available in it for swara elongations and comfortable staying on the pitches in the gamut, in tune-- which made a deep impact on the listeners. It is again the southerners who have stolen a march over their northern compatriots in the matter of mastery over and performance of Hindustani music in concerts. R regular broadcaster over the All Indian Radio and Doordarshan Kendra is working as Programme Officer in Doordarshan Kendra Varanasi.Dr. R.K.Srinivasan was also invited as a Visiting Professor in University of Michigan,U.S.A.during Sept-October2007.
