Learn how to sing healthfully and learn the skills you need to know as a singer!

Hi! I'm Rachel! I have a Bachelor's in Music Education from CSULA where I was in multiple advanced ensembles, sang a solo in a musical, designed my own Senior Recital and starred in an Opera! I also spent 1 year working on a Masters in Commercial Music (also from CSULA) where I took voice lessons with an accomplished pop singer and I rehearsed & performed in the Commercial Music Ensemble. For voice lessons, we start with getting to know each other -How old are you? Have you taken lessons before? What kind of music do you like?. Then, we go over some technique basics and some warmups and we choose your first song. Depending on what you want to learn, this is when we could start inputting rhythm lessons to teach you why sheet music looks the way it does and how you can learn to read it, as easily as possible. Most likely, for singing songs, we'll use personalized technique vowels at first (a method used in both programs at CSULA) and then we'll find a way to help you sing just as strongly with the lyrics. Once you can sing healthfully through a whole song using the lyrics, then we cover character choices/dynamics. This is also the time when I'll ask you what else you would like to learn. If you don't know the answer to this question yet or if you need some guidelines, I'll show you the Student Curriculum sheet I created. As much as it helps us answer this question, the real purpose of the Student Curriculum sheet is to make sure that I do a good job training you to be a professional singer. However, if you just want to sing for fun, that's cool too! For example, I have taught kids who are in it for the fun, tweens and teens who are more serious, adults who have never sang before, one adult who wanted her own version of music therapy and seniors who wanted to freshen their singing chops. Basically, when it comes to lessons, I am here for you, however you need me to be. If you would like more details for what I teach in lessons, check out my experience section! You can also ask me any questions!

Hi there! I’m Ms. Rachel! I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from CSULA, and I’m currently working on a Masters in Commercial Music from CSULA as well. I’ve been teaching beginning piano and voice since January 2017. Now, I also teach the basics of music theory, and songwriting too! I sing and teach all styles, including but not limited to pop, rock, country, jazz, R&B, blues, musical theater, classical singing, and opera. I value getting to know you and what you want to learn. Most importantly, I value your health -mentally, emotionally, physically, vocally, etc.. I’m gentle and patient. I’ve worked with many kinds of students from cautious 4 year olds to shy middle schoolers to ambitious high schoolers to adults who have different aspirations to seniors who always wanted to learn music, etc.. I’m happy to teach you about how music works and how music can work for you! If you have any questions, such as availability, please let me know! Have a wonderful day! ☺️
