Levels taught:
Beginner, Intermediate
Although my background is in classical guitar, I also teach bass in all styles, including rock and jazz.

About Phil H.

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and teaching since 2008. Along with teaching, I've also been pursuing music recording, an endeavor which has produced two full-length albums and one that is still in progress that should be released sometime in 2020.

*** Lesson Details ***
When teaching guitar or any other instrument, I typically use a method book to guide the lessons. In addition to the lesson book, which will cover music-reading, we'll learn scales, chords and strum patterns, among other things. I try to tailor each lesson according to the student's skill level and individual musical interests.

After learning the basics, we can learn different styles of music, including rock, blues, jazz, classical, etc. I look forward to exploring these genres with you!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my own instrument. I would expect my student to have or to rent his/her own instrument.

Phil Hodges is a phenomenal and inspiring guitar teacher. Over the past year of guitar lessons with Phil, my daughter's playing ability has rapidly advanced and she is so enthusiastic about practicing. Guitar lessons with Phil is a highlight of her week!

"Not only does Phil teach techniques and theory, but he nurtures a passion for music within his students. Thanks to Phil, I see my 10-year-old son growing in confidence and competence. He looks forward to his lesson each week and is motivated to practice regularly.”

"We highly recommend Phil to anyone looking for an excellent guitar teacher. Both our daughters are flourishing under his instruction. We love that he tailors his lessons to the individual student. He teaches everything from classical to contemporary including some of the girls favorite songs, which keeps them interested and practicing. He is extremely talented yet very humble and kind.
