I am a professional guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer. I graduated from the Purchase College Conservatory of Music with a Bachelors in classical guitar performance. I am currently working on a Masters degree in film scoring at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema in Brooklyn New York.
I've been writing my own music since the age of 12. I've recorded and released several albums with different groups along the way and will continue recording and performing music as long as I live.
I've performed with bands all over New York as well as New Jersey, Boston, and Maine. I've played in original bands, cover bands, jazz combos, big bands, pit orchestras, and solo shows.
I've been teaching for 12 years and in that time have had students who came to me as beginners become professionals and teachers themselves. I've worked with students on becoming better players in specifics styles such as jazz, blues, classical, and rock/pop.
Some of my biggest influences are Pat Metheny, Steve Howe, Juliam Bream, David Russel, Jeff Beck and many more.
Very chill dude, very knowledgeable, prepared, and willing to work with students interests.
I started with Peter when I was 13 years old and continued taking weekly lessons until I was 19. In those 7 years Peter helped take my playing from an intermediate level to a near expert level. Our weekly meetings ranged from just learning new songs, music theory, or just jamming over backing tracks we would create. Peter is knowledgable in every form of music. In our years of lessons we enjoyed playing classic rock, blues, jazz, classical, and gypsy jazz. Peter was able to walk me teach me through the beginning levels of Music Theory.
Most importantly through our 7 years together, became was able to take me from a very shy musician to someone who was very confident on stage playing at different bars. Peter went from being a teacher to a very close friend as he helped me grow. Although I do not take lessons with him anymore due to being away at college, I keep in touch with Peter every time I am home.
I would highly recommend Peter to anyone at any level guitar playing. He has the patience someone needs if you're just starting out and the expertise to help take even some of the best players to the next level.
Peter I’ve played guitar for 30 years and since playing under your guidance I feel I have rediscovered my own nstrument..... I truly thank you....
Peter Scoma is the best spankin guitar teacher on the island let me just say. This man has tought be how to be one with my instrument. Understand that this plank of wood with strings must be used to pull music out of your soul with the upper most of precision and dedication. Without this dudes dedication of 11 EMPHASIZE 11 years I would NEVER be half the musician I am. Not only has he promoted me to be the best musician I could be, but the best human I could be. I could never imagine my life with out his upbringings and could not imagine my life without an instructor of his caliber. I’m forever greatful for Peter F***** Scoma!
