I am a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a bachelors in jazz drum set performance. I have toured with various bands in the US, Asia, and Europe and South America.
I teach all levels and all styles of music, from Rock to Jazz to Latin-American rhythms. In my lessons I maintain a healthy balance of drum basics (rudiments, stick technique) and helping the students learn the music that would like to play. Learning the fundamentals gives students the tools they need to be creative as possible. I can prepare students for school band and jazz band auditions as well as prepare them to play in a band of their own!
*** Lesson Details ***
I always spend a part of each lesson working with students on fundamentals and technique.
I also like to spend a portion of the lessons focusing on the student's own musical interests and teaching them to play the drum parts from songs they like. If available, I often will play keyboards with the student.
If the student is in or aspires to be in a band, whether it be a garage band with friends or the school jazz band, I can help the student develop the necessary skills.
Above all, I strive to make my students excited about music and to inspire them to work hard towards accomplishing the goals that we set together.
