Hi, I am a native New Yorker and a guitar player since age 13. I played in blues/rock bands throughout my teens, getting to play the legendary clubs of my Greenwich Village neighborhood. My discovery of Spanish classical guitar music occurred in college at UC Berkeley, and I graduated with a BA in Music, then spent two years playing in Europe, before returning home and forming the band Not Heaven; we played the club circuit, Danceteria to CBGB.

I also began teaching at the American Institute of Guitar in NYC, and writing guitar instruction books (still in print!). Along the way I did a Master’s in Performance at Stony Brook, and have continued to publish, perform and teach the music which inspires me.

Flamenco remains a primary involvement, as performer and composer as well. Playing for flamenco dance classes at Bard College and Ballet Hispanico brings interaction with kids of all ages, and my students likewise range across all age groups.
