My session with Patty was extremely helpful. I really liked the online video format. I was able to correct some tension issues which I now need to practice. I'm looking forward to our next session!
If you want to learn HOW to knit the best you can, and WHY the best way gives you the best result, it is Patty you want to learn from. She is able to scale her teaching to simplify and clarify, from first steps in yarn and needles to complex maneuvers, with excellent instinct for where the student's abilities currently lie, and to enhance the student's skill with immediately applicable takeaways. She teaches your knitting to soar. I am pumped and cannot wait for my next class!+ Read More
I am a self-taught, long time knitter with the most basic knowledge. I have eschewed many patterns that require advanced techniques. One session with Patty was revelatory about the why of doing. I left with greater confidence, eager for my next lesson.
Patty was great. It was my first lesson with her but I'd tried to learn before without much success. Patty was able to explain mechanics it a way hat made it finally click with me. I have homework now so we'll see how I do next week!
Patty is a fantastic teacher. She explains everything VERY clearly and never takes anything for granted. She makes you understand the how's and the why's of what she is teaching, so that you can really get the 'full picture'. In addition to that, she has a great sense of humor and explains things in such a way that you never ever get bored. I have purchased several online classes and workshops taught by Patty (on Craftsy, Annie's and Interweave) and I have never regretted it! When I see something is taught by Patty Lyons I know it's going to be good! I live in Italy so I've never got to take live classes with her but I hope it's going to be possible sometime soon!+ Read More
The two classes I took with Patty back in Aug 2015 are still resonating with me. I learned so much and keep going back to the handouts and samples we completed so I can keep up the skills she taught so wonderfully! I keep checking Patty's site to figure out when I can take another class with her - whether in person or on line I would do it in a heartbeat!+ Read More
Patty Lyons is a remarkable combination two talents essential to playing with sticks and string: expert knitter and excellent teacher. As if those talents weren't enough, she also has a delightful sense of humor. I took a class with her at Vogue Knitting Live NYC and it was great. If you have the opportunity to learn from Ms. Lyons, jump on it! You'll be so glad you did.+ Read More
I have taken a couple of Patty's online classes through Craftsy and they changed my knitting. I have been knitting for over 50 years and her tips have really helped. I have also tried new knitting styles and techniques because of Patty's classes. She has such a down to earth approach and a great sense of humour too. I look forward to more classes.+ Read More
I took two classes with Patty at Stitches Texas. She is the BEST! Patty's classes were fun and informative. I took Patty's Knitting Bag of Tricks and Learning to Knit & Purl Backwards and came away feeling I had more than gotten my money's worth in her classes. She's a definite repeat for me.+ Read More
I took a class with Patti at Vogue Knitting Live in NYC and within 30 seconds was sure I wanted to bring her home with me! She is as funny as she is informative. In one class I learned more than I had in 3 years of previous knitting. I live in upstate NY but am hoping to work one of her workshops into my next trip to NYC. If I can't I will be taking one of her online courses!+ Read More
I have taken two classes with Patty at Vogue Live/NY. She is as funny as a standup comedian and so informative that you walk away with a load of insight and information.
Her demos are great and she simplifies the math! It took Patty 4 nano seconds, watching me knit, to figure out why my gauge was off! I am so grateful! I am no longer making garments large enough to cover a car!
I have taken several online classes with Patty. These include 2 with Craftsy and 2 with Knitty Daily. Patty does a fabulous job and makes the instruction easy to understand.
I've taken three online knitting classes with Patty -- and they have all been fantastic. Patty's teaching style is clear and detailed. I've used many of the techniques I've learned from her classes to improve my knitting. She has a wonderful sense of humor and I love her "swatchzilla" swatch!+ Read More
I have taken Patty's classes, first online, with Craftsy, and then in person, at Vogue Knitting Live in Pasadena. I have also knit one of her patterns. Patty has an incredible breadth of technical knowledge, and shares it most generously. I always learn more than promised, and keep coming back for more. I highly recommend Patty as a knitting teacher.+ Read More
My Knitting Guild had Patty teach 5 classes over 3 days. I learned so much about the "why" of knitting. I've been knitting over 50 years and thought there wasn't anything Patty could teach me - was I ever wrong. Her tips and tricks have improved both my technique and my fabric. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Patty as a teacher!+ Read More
I have taken three of her classes online and I can't imagine a better instructor. Even when I think I already know a lot about the topic, she always has more to teach me. She is patient and kind and very clear in her explanations. I love that she explains WHY to do something instead of simply telling you to do it. Her class on Improving Your Knitting revolutionized the way I knit. I watched it three times and will watch it again. I would love an opportunity to take a private class with Patty.+ Read More
I've taken a number of Patty's classes and she is by far the best instructor. She makes everything easy to understand and is very patient no matter what level she is teaching. I get the most out of her classes and she has taught me so much. I highly recommend everyone to try her classes.+ Read More
Patty is nothing short of amazing. I first took an in-person class with Patty at Stitches Midwest in 2015. As she tells everyone, she doesn't just teach you the how, she teaches you the why. This pedagogy allows you to not only understand your stitches and fabric to a greater degree, it also allows you to become more self-sufficient when you encounter problems. Also, Patty's sense of humor truly makes her classes not only educational but so much fun as well. Her wit and cleverness makes the learning experience even more enjoyable. After taking Patty's class at Stitches, I was sold after that one experience and snatched up her two Craftsy classes, four DVDs (from Annie's and Interweave), and some webinars from Interweave. It doesn't matter what she is teaching and what your level of skill is; you will learn something from Patty and have fun doing it too. I've been knitting for years and still learned things from each of the classes she teaches. If I had to choose one instructor as the most effective knitting teacher I've ever had, it would be Patty.+ Read More
Very knowledgeable and full of energy. Patty used high tech media to demonstrate how-to in blocking knitted pieces. I look up her name in the instructor list to see what courses she will be teaching.
Moar Patty, all of the time, Patty first and last, A-Z - I have learned more from Patty both live and online from any knitting instructor, anytime, anywhere and if I lived nearby, I would sign up for weekly lessons. I truly feel there is NOTHING she could not teach as regards knitting, and what she does select to teach has catapulted me from a mere novice to a confident knitter willing to tackle dozens of new techniques (and spend many dollars on yarn, tools and classes because the outcome has been so pleasing)! Patty is, simply put, a gem, and any site who affiliates with her will be counting its lucky stars that they have retained her. I cannot remember any educational enterprise I have been involved with that had such a phenomenal teacher/leader as Patty, and I am a lifelong learner who recognizes quality instruction, and strongly supports it in every respect.+ Read More
I have taken several of Patty's classes online and she is THE BEST teacher. Everything is very well explained and demonstrated. She has a great sense of humor.
I have taken knitting numerous classes over the years - LYSs, retreats, Stitches, online, etc. I can honestly say that Patty is the BEST instructor I have come across. She simplifies the complex and explains the WHYs which is so critical to learning. It stays with you long after the class is over. You are very lucky if you get to take one of her classes!!+ Read More
Best class ever. I have been knitting for decades, learning from my grandmother. Never knew there were names for what I was doing. Patty cleared up many questions and taught me more than I can remember. Bless handouts.
I love learning from Patty Lyons. My first class was at Vogue Knitting Live and I learned so much Insigned up the following year for 2 more classes. She is so much fun AND so knowledgeable. I've also taken some of her classes on Craftsy, every experience has bee great.+ Read More
Oh my goodness! I can't say enough good things about the way Patty teaches. I have learned SOOOOOO much from her. I have signed up for everyone online class she has done -- and still go back and rewatch them.
If I had a chance to take a personal class from her I'd jump at the chance to do that. You can't go wrong signing up for a class or private lesson being taught by Patty Lyons
I took Patty's "Using Short Rows" class in Seattle. It was the best. She had an excellent handout. She is organized, concise, answered everyone's questions and got through the whole lesson plan without rushing at the end. I would definitely take another class from her. I have taken many knitting classes and she is one of the best. EXCELLENT!!+ Read More
Patty is the greatest! She makes learning so much fun! I took classes from her at VKL Chicago and have since signed up for 3 online classes. She helps you really understand the whys and wherefores of knitting and how to improve. I've been knitting for 60+ years and she's taught me so much more than I ever could have imagined there was to learn.+ Read More
I've actually taken classes from Patty in person at knitting events as well as online through Craftsy. She is a fantastic teacher: fun, knowledgeable, great at explaining, and patient. She really digs into the technical side of knitting and makes it seem fascinating. Since taking her classes, I am a much better knitter and also a much more thoughtful one. I can't recommend her highly enough.+ Read More
Patty Lyons ROCKS as a knitting instructor. I have taken most of her online classes through Craftsy, Interweave and Annie's and have learned so much. The thing that I love the most about Patty's style of teaching is that in addition to teaching the technique she also gives you insight into the 'why' of what you are doing which has taken my knitting to a whole new level. Additionally, she is funny and upbeat - it's a joy to laugh along with her and feel like she is right there next to you.+ Read More
I have purchased Patty's Craftsy class Improve Your Knitting and it is one of the best knitting classes I have ever taken. I learned so much about technique, the hows and whys of various knitting styles and the physics of knitting. Taking an in person class would be a wonderful experience! A real hands on opportunity to get her insight on an individual level. If I lived close enough I would do it in a heartbeat!+ Read More
I have taken three on-line classes from Patty and weekend live seminar. All the classes were fabulous. My guild members loved the seminar so !much that we invited her back for our annual retreat.
I took Patty's Bag of Tricks class at Stitches Texas in September 2015 and was blown away, not only by the content, but by her generous and engaging style of instruction. She made her tricks seem like common knitting sense, not some big mystery, so the class was a series of "Oh, yeah!" moments. I'll definitely be taking her other classes in whatever format they're offered.+ Read More
Patty Lyons has taught me more about knitting; (the how & why of stitches; why of mistakes, and tips to correct them) than I have ever learned in a single little yarn shop instruction! And I love that I can have the "classes" from 'Craftsy', 'Interweave', and "Annie's', online, right in my own home, to watch over and over again if I need my memory refreshed on a technique (such as joining in the round), or stitches (knitting a neat selvage edge). Once a yarn shop owner was explaining how to make sure the long-tail cast on wasn't too tight by placing one's index finger at the stitch; just as I had seen Patty tell us to do in her instructional video. I asked him if he had learned that from Patty Lyons, and he answered, "Yes, I did"! 'And it has saved me from tight cast-ons ever since'! So Patty has helped a lot of people she isn't even aware of helping. Profs to Patty! She's the best!!+ Read More
Patty is engaging, easy to follow and understand, she encourages questions and active participation and teaches with a healthy dose of humor. I look forward to taking more classed from her in the future! So happy she was in San Diego for TKGA this year!
Ms. Lyons is a most engaging teacher. I took her Craftsy class -"improve your knitting." I quickly became engrossed in the subject. Even though I was knitting Continental style, the first section on English style helped me with my Continental knitting. Ms. Lyons explains how and more importantly (to many of us) why you do it this way.
I also found myself admiring her style of teaching. Having taught, I know how difficult it can be. I got a friend who doesn't knit (or crochet or anything similar) but who does teach, to watch for a bit. He said, she engaged me in the subject and I didn't even know the subject matter at all. I found that to be high praise.
This is a great class for improving your knitting and trying alternate methods and styles. I am extremely happy to have chosen this class. I am sure I will return to it again and again.
About 3 years ago, I got a coupon to take any Craftsy class for $10, so I decided it was time to learn to do something other than bags and scarves, so I chose Patty Lyons' "Exploration in Cables". I knit my first cable swatch that night and stayed up all night with Patty and cables! I enrolled in her "Improve You Knitting" that night, too!
Patty is a natural teacher who intuitively knows to answer questions I did not know I had. She not only shows you "how" to do each technique, she explains "why", so you not only remember the "how", but you get a clearer understanding of what is happening with your knitting to create each stitch. By understanding the anatomy of each stitch and how they all work together, you can easily fix errors and let your creativity run wild, because you are in control! As she teaches you each technique, she will also amaze you with tips from her "bag of tricks", almost magical little ways to do things like get rid of that loose stitch at the edge or tighten up that cable stitch next to your purls. For every technique and tip, she will show you how using both picking and throwing!
Patty has a fantastic sense of humor and moves along at an easy to follow pace, so you will never get lost and never get bored!
Three years later, I am a far more skilled knitter! Cabling and colorwork are now my passions and I am not intimidated by even the most intricate cabled to Fair Isle design, thanks to what I have learned in Patty's Craftsy, Interweave and Annie's online classes! I refer back to them a lot and I giggle out loud, again, to her jokes and often pick up something I missed in previous viewings!
I have enrolled in ALL of Patty's online classes since that first one and I will enroll in every new class she does, because I learn SO much from every single class, every single lesson. No teacher is as informative or enjoyable as Patty Lyons!
If you are thinking about taking a class from Patty, whether in person or online, DO IT! If you only ever take a class from one knitting instructor, Patty Lyons is, hands down, the best choice!
Took Patty's Magic Knitting class at Vogue Live in Chicago. Awesome!!! Learned magic loop very quickly and understood the process. She made it very easy to understand. Would take anything she teaches.
I was lucky enough to take TWO of Patty's classes at Vogue Live Chicago. The 1st was a knitting repair class. Not only did I learn how to fix a hole in my knitting but I learned how to lengthen/shorten an already knitted item. Patty spent time with each student during this class making sure that we completely understood what we were learning and felt comfortable doing the repairs our self.
The 2nd class was Patty's Gauge class. I finally understand the mathematics's need for me to make adjustments in my sweater knitting especially when using a different weight yarn then the pattern calls for. I can't wait to make the perfect sweater for me.
After a long absence from knitting, I decided to pick up my needles again and take an online class with Patty called, "Explorations in Cables". Not only did I glean a tremendous amount of information about cabling but Patty also shared many technical "tricks" that made knitting easier and the product look better. She also has the philosophy that there are no knitting "police" which give the learner the confidence to experiment and try new techniques. I also had the pleasure of participating in a colorwork class with Patty as the instructor at the Vogue Knitting Live event in NYC in 2015. Patty brings enthusiasm and confidence to her classes which makes her a master instructor.+ Read More
I took a class on knitting without turning with Patty at Stitches TX 2015 and found her to be engaging, fun, extremely articulate and absolutely inspiring. Her instructions (both written and oral) are clear and easy to follow, even for tricky techniques. What I really loved was how she was able to break knitting down to its basic essence and give us all permission to make it our own without insinuating that anyone was doing it wrong previously. She has a great sense of humor and creates a very comfortable learning environment.
I continue to find myself "really looking at" my knitting, sometimes even to the point I set it down and stare at it and pet it because it looks so pretty now! I can honestly say my knitting has improved vastly after taking her class, even though I'm not a new knitter. Obviously Patty is very talented at teaching at least this old dog some new tricks! If you haven't ever taken instruction from her, whether online or in-person, do it now. It will change (in a positive way) how you knit forever.
I've taken two of Patty Lyons' online classes (General knitting and Cables) and found them both informative, interesting, and extremely clear. This is a woman who clears knows her stuff. She LOVES knitting-- which makes learning from her so enjoyable. I like Patty's style so well that this spring I'll be taking two different workshops from her at Stitches West. Anyone who can get one-on-one instruction from her is fortunate indeed.+ Read More
I have all of her Craftsy classes and several from other venues. I can't tell you how much I have learned from her. Yes, I am an advance newbie knitter and her classes have never failed me when I was stuck or had one of those "why" moments.
I have viewed lots of YouTube and have purchased videos from other instructors. Somehow, they are always lacking a little something when you're looking for the full picture. Patty starts from the absolute beginning and follows through to the solution. You never have to guess about how you got there and where you're going to end up next!
She is my "WHY" girl ......... you want to know why? Well, she'll tell and show you! Highly recommended for newbies to advanced experienced.
I have taken all of Patty's Craftsy classes, and have the DVDs for all of her Annie's and Interweave classes and seminars. Whenever I see something new from her I get it as soon as I can because she is an excellent instructor. I always learn something new from her. I've got a LOT of Craftsy, Annie's & Interweave knitting classes and hers are the best for the subjects covered in them.+ Read More
I am a very experienced knitter with over 40 years of experience and can say, without hesitation, that Patty is the best knitting instructor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. I have no doubt that knitters of all skill levels would benefit from Patty's classes. I have taken most of them (on Craftsy, Annie's Attic and Interweave Knits) and found her to be very engaging, logical and thorough. She explains everything very clearly, and provides so many useful tips, even for those who thought they knew almost everything there was to know about knitting. I highly recommend any class taught by Patty and I hope she keeps creating new ones!+ Read More
Patty is an amazing teacher. I took a class in blocking and not only learned how to block, but much, much more. You will love her!
I took classes with Patty last year at the Make, Wear, Love retreat in midcoast Maine last year. She was an excellent teacher. I've been knitting since forever and thought I knew it all (vbg) but she taught me so many techniques to improve my knitting. She was well-prepared, organized, funny and able to get the information across without confusing me! I would love to take more classes with Patty and can highly recommend her as a teacher!+ Read More
I've taken both Patty's Craftsy classes, and I just ordered her Interweave DVDs. I've been knitting for 50 years and I can't believe how much I'm learning from Patty.
She is hands down the best knitting teacher I've ever seen.
