I am a professional violinist and violist based in Los Angeles as of July 2019. Prior to my time in Los Angeles, I was a freelance musician and educator in New York City from 2006-2019. I have a BM, MM, and Ph.D in Music Performance from New York University. As a teacher, I have taught students of all ages and levels of experience, ranging from beginner students to professional practitioners. I am an Assistant Professor in the music department at California State University, Los Angeles, am chamber music faculty at LACHSA (LA County High School for the Arts) and have previously held positions at New York University, Western Connecticut State University, and Hunter College. I believe that every student is different in how they progress and have a flexible approach to teaching, but do believe that awareness of technique and fundamentals is the key to progress. While working with me, students can expect clear guidelines regarding practice goals for a week, and a communicative relationship between student and teacher. In an ideal teacher-student relationship, the student should always feel free to express to me if an approach is not working for them, or if they do not understand a concept explained in lessons! I am also willing to work with students regarding repertoire, and have experience with working with differently abled students, and with repertoire outside of the standard canon. As a performer, I work with a variety of classical and non-classical genres, including rock, pop, and jazz music. I have performed with contemporary music groups Alarm Will Sound, Argento New Music Project, ensemble mise-en, ETHEL, Hotel Elefant, Newspeak, Signal, The Wordless Music Orchestra, indie band OWEL, the avant-rock Burning City Orchestra led by Noam Faingold, metal string quartet seven)suns, and the disco band Escort. I have also played in the company of a variety of artists spanning many genres, including Icelandic singer Björk, avant-jazz-funk band Medeski, Martin and Wood, Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead, the band Goldfrapp, Icelandic electronic artist Valgeir Sigurdsson, John Cale from the Velvet Underground, rock band Deep Purple, and Afro-Peruvian singer Eva Ayllón, in a variety of concert halls, bars, and living rooms, including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Center, Muziekgebouw a’ant Ij in Amsterdam, the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Merkin Hall, Roulette, Issue Project Room, Galapagos, Symphony Space, and Death by Audio. I love bringing this experience into my teaching, so if there is a genre you are interested in please let me know!

Patti is a wonderful teacher and player. She has helped me correct many problems with technique as well as correct difficult passages by giving me better ways of practicing. She has given me insight how to play pieces from different musical periods along with music theory when appropriate. She patiently answers all my questions and gives thoughtful advice when asked. She is very gentle with her feedback, is very encouraging, and I found myself practicing as much as possible. I really enjoyed learning as much as I could from her.

Patti is one of the most fun and caring teachers I know—I would highly recommend her to any student out there, not the least because she is a master pedagogue, but also because she is a stellar violinist. Patti is the best!
