I'm Patricia, and I am currently a High School Spanish teacher. I've been interested in other cultures and languages my entire life. I was born in El Salvador but grew up in the United States.

I went to the University of Maryland for both my Bachelors in Spanish Language and Literature and Masters in Teaching.

I have taught in middle and high school, and I have experience in the International Baccalaureate and MYP Program. I have also taught Spanish to children online (K-3). I can't say I have a favorite age group because I love teaching Spanish!

I have a communicative approach when teaching another language. That means that I teach having a context in mind (friends, cities, phone conversations, social media, sports etc.) and I include tasks related to that context (write an email or post, explain a menu, record a dialogue with a friend, design an outfit, decorate your room etc.)

When I teach younger kids, I like programs and books with childlike characters that we'll follow in their daily lives. In my experience, all students learn better through real life examples and a lot of conversation practice.

About Patricia R.

Hola! I'm Patricia, a Spanish teacher. I have been teaching Spanish for many years. I live in Maryland but I was born in El Salvador, the smallest country in Central America. I want you to know that learning Spanish can be fun! We will learn a lot together but I promise to make Spanish lessons fun too!

You will learn to speak Spanish but I will also teach you about Latin culture, food, music and and many different countries. I have traveled to Spain, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Colombia and Guatemala. I can't wait to share these experiences with you!

I can't wait to get to get to know you and learn Spanish together. Hasta pronto!

My 7 years old has been taking Spanish lessons twice a week with Patricia since the COVID19 crisis. Despite being distracted at times when attending other online classes, she always looks forward to class with "Miss Pat”. Patricia is a phenomenal instructor. She designs her classes based on the age group, knows how to keep her students engaged and makes it fun for them while keeping them on task during the lessons. I would definitely recommend her!

Pat is excellent. She keeps the class/my daughter engaged and learning. We are very impressed with how much Spanish my daughter has learned in just a few months!

My daughter (Grade 2) is currently taking Spanish lessons from Patricia as part of an online class. I’ve been very happy with her experience! Patricia is a patient and practiced instructor. Her lessons engage the students and I appreciate her interactive strategy to teaching, especially in the online environment. For example, Pat encourages student participation in class through singing and movement. My daughter feels confident in Patricia’s class and is making great progress with Spanish. I would highly recommend Patricia as an instructor/tutor.

Such a wonderful teacher and experience! Kind, patient, and so helpful. My children have struggled learning online but Señora Vasco has kept them engaged and interested- every single session. My kids have grown so much in their Spanish learning and really look forward to their lessons!
