Well not every teacher has the same approach to teaching, but so far as I'm concerned my students are always welcome to come up with altertate ways of working with the clay, and I know of more than one way to get a similar result. Ceramics is a mix of materials science and art/expression. Taking that into account not everyone can adhere to the traditional techniques due to degree of physical needs to complete some tasks. For instance, some people have problems wedging the clay(its similar to kneading dough), which is a way to make the clay into a uniform consitancy and rid the clay of air pockets before making your ceramic art. While I was in Jingdezhen China, I learned a way to gain both the consistancy and making the clay void of air pockets through a method of throwing the clay on a clean surface in a specific manner to get the same result. Basically my meaning is that the same thing doesnt work for every student and I try to facilitate the lesson to the students needs, so that they can enjoy the lesson and continue to make ceramics without being discouraged.

I had the opportunity to learn many classical styles of Chinese ceramic arts and share the ceramics skills I have learned in Indonesia and America. I learned blue and white which is traditional blue color on porcelain, a special style of hand building which enables the artist to make very large hand built ceramics, and Yixing tea pots. During that period of time I had also taught dozens of students, the majority were college students, but there were a few high school students, and few students whom were not attending college that consisted of business people and some children.

Started my own small ceramics studio, made ceramics, fired(cooked) my work in my own kiln, made my own glazes, also taught a few children average age 9years old. The children I taught were able to take the work they had made home as a finished product that they had made themselves!
