Hi there! My name is Paolo P. I'm a classically trained pianist originally from Connecticut and have been working in Musical Theater for nearly 10 years in my capacity as Music Director at various playhouses throughout the North East. I currently reside here in NYC and have always worked with private students, from basic lessons, to audition prep, and vocal coaching. In a session with me, you'll explore more than how to simply sing or play the notes that are on the page. We'll go over how to become a compelling story teller, how to impress the creative team, and why it's important to find variety within your piece, and how to do that. Whether you're a working actor looking for fine fine tuning, or a beginner who has always wanted to sing that one certain song, feel free to reach out and let me know how I can help you become a better musician. Hope to speak with you soon!
I have been happily working with Narrows Community as Music Director for three of their past productions. Those productions were Shrek : The Musical, with their youth theater program (70 kids between 8-18 yrs), and The Wedding Singer and South Pacific with their regular community theater group.
I believe in three major principles as I approach each lesson, repertoire, repetition, and reinforcement. In observing a student's repertoire I seek to find pieces that not only match my student's interests, but will also challenge their ability and relate those interests to other disciplines in an effort to expand their artistic ability. In repetition we find the core of a solid practice regiment. I seek to use various practice techniques with my students in an effort to teach them how their music can be just as effective a teacher as another human being. In our music we find peace and intricacy. Unfortunately, we also find frustration and disappointment. It is my most sincere hope that I can help every one of my students find a way to make practicing their music an engaging and creative experience. With reinforcement we centralize the main idea behind simply singing or playing something off a page and discovering a musicality that is unique, well informed, and honest. Relations can be found in a students interests to sports, nature, science, other artistic disciplines and is certainly not limited to this short list. Whether you are a new student or a student seeking to expand your understanding of a musical discipline I am confident that we can create a lesson that fits your desires and your dreams.
