Paolo Colagrossi was born in Campobasso on May 23, 1989. At the beginning of his musical path he performed in several Music Festivals in Italy with the band La Stella Rossa del Kinotto (Bonefro Rock, Vinchiaturo Music Festival, Rockstock, Italia Wave).
In 2007 - 2008
is joining the Young Jazz Puzzle for Europe, a project that
brings together young talents from all over the world to
perform alongside musicians such as Pierre Vaiana (Django
d'or 2009) and Tuur Floorizone.
In 2009 - 2010
he moved to Rome where he pursued a scholarship to attend
the diploma course at St. Louis College of Music. He is then
admitted to the Conservatory L. Refice of Frosinone where
he graduated in jazz guitar with the highest marks. During
these years he is a guitar teacher at the Suaviter music
school in Rome and collaborates with local musicians.
In 2011
he obtains an Erasmus scholarship to continue his studies at
Lemmens Institute in Leuven (BE). During this period he
performed with his quartet in different local clubs including
the Music Village in Brussels.
In 2012
he is admitted to attend the Master's program in Jazz Guitar
at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he studies with J.
Van Ruller, M. Van Der Grinten and M. Van Ijterson.
In 2013
he collaborates with composer Johanna Groot Bluemink to
perform pieces for solo guitar and orchestra at the
Composers' Festival in Amsterdam.
In 2014
he joins the CVA Big Band directed by artists such as John
Clayton (Doublebassist of Count Basie's Orchestra) and
Justin Di Cioccio (Director of the Jazz Department at the
Manhattan School Of Music).
In 2015 - 2016
he performs at the Amsterdamse Theater School the music
for the opera "Eer Was Eens" by composer Luca Petracca.
During these years he also has the opportunity to deepen
the language of jazz and improvisation by taking private
lessons from Lee Konitz, Peter Bernstein and Lage Lund. He
performs with his band, the Paolo Colagrossi Quintet, and
records his first album as bandleader, "Melodie Dal
Mezzogiorno". ".... The album has a strong artistic unit and a
good balance between strength and stillness. ... 'Melodies
From the Mezzogiorno' is a successful project. "Jazzflits.
In 2017
he is a guitar assistant at Fara in Sabina's Jazz Clinics and
move to NYC with an O1-B visa (for individuals with
extraordinary ability in the arts).
