Howdy! I've been playing a stringed-instrument of one sort-or-another since the wee age of 6 and in a variety of contexts, from full orchestras to rock bands to world-class recording studios. I've composed original music for theatrical productions and mastered classical pieces for solo violin performance. I learned my instruments through a combination of private instruction, self-education, and years of real-world experience. My first instrument was violin, which I started playing in fourth grade; I started private violin lessons in sixth, and continued with the same teacher until I was 20. At age 16 I started playing guitar and electric bass, and shortly thereafter picked up mandolin, ukulele. . . basically whatever stringed instrument was needed in whatever band or ensemble I happened to be playing with at the time. I've found I have an affinity for quickly learning any stringed instrument, a skill for which I owe credit to my years of private instruction on violin. In addition to musical instruction, I offer audition monologue coaching for aspiring actors. As a former directing student I'm familiar with the Meisner, Strasberg and Atlantic schools, and am well-versed in script analysis and vocal production techniques. In addition to directing my own productions, I've performed in dozens, both at school and around NYC. I received my BFA in Theatre from NYU, and while I my focus was directing, I of course ended up composing original music and designing sound effects and musical cues for many student and professional productions. I love teaching! I've taught students as young as 4 1/2 and beginners well into their 30s. *** Lesson Details *** I've got lots of experience helping absolute beginners get started on their chosen instrument. I like to cultivate an atmosphere that's relaxed, but focused. I firmly believe that positive reinforcement and regular practice are the most reliable formula for progress. Violin lessons follow the core Suzuki curriculum, a proven learning system that beginners of any age can grasp – it's how I was taught. I tailor lessons for Guitar, Bass, Ukulele and Mandolin to the particular student: If you're interested in learning a specific song, we use that song as a springboard; If you want to learn theory along with technique, we can incorporate that as well. *** Studio Equipment *** The In-Studio lessons are taught in the front living room area which includes seating, guitar amp, digital keyboard, guitars, and bass guitar, violin, 2 ukuleles, mandolin. 1 cat in separate room. park on street, no permit required. *** Specialties *** I was taught a variation of Suzuki method on violin (classical) from age 8 through 18.
