M.M in Jazz Performance / piano
Learn Composition and develop your creativity.
We are going to discuss diferent ways to come up with a musical idea. Explore different aproches to create and develop the basic aspects of a song or composition: Melody, Harmony, Form, Texture, Rhythm, and Orquestation. I am more focussed on jazz composition that can be used in diferent styles pop, latin music, contemporary music among other styles. I teach diferent tecniques that are developed by Bela Bartok, Oliver Messian, Composers of the Romanticism and 21th century and jazz composers and arrangers like Duke Ellington and Billy Sthayhorn, Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans, Chales Mingus, Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane.
I studied classical music theory and analysis, and I had great contempory composition and arranging techers like Alan Ferber, Guillermo Klein Rich Shemaria and Alan Broadbent.
My goal is to build up your creativity and help you to create good songs or composition and develop you own music pesonality.

Oscar Caucaly is a prominent Colombian pianist. He studied at Xaveriana University. After graduating, he moved to Barcelona to to study at the Liceu Conservatory with the sponsorship of the Carolina Foundation of Spain. He obtained his Master’s degree in Jazz Studies at New York University in 2021.
At NYU, Oscar studied with Alan Broadbent, , Ari Hoening, Alex Sipiagin, Alan Ferber. He also studied with Niko Mainhold, Christoph Adams, Iñaki Sandoval, and Mariano Diaz. In 2019 he performed at the Blue Note Jazz Club with the NYU Alan Ferber Nonet and in 2020 he joined the NYU Chris Potter ensemble.
In 2015 he released Cardamomo, his first recording as a leader which received good reviews. In addition to his own group, he is co-leader of the La Zebra Azul Orchestra. In 2019 this orchestra recorded their first album Cayengue. In 2018 Oscar recorded Stuffelman with the FLC Organ trio featuring the Italian saxophonist and Verve artist Gianni Bardaro.
Oscar Caucaly has played many important music festivals in Colombia including Jazz al Parque, Teatro Libre International Festival, and Los Andes University Jazz Festival among others, He has also played at iconic venues such as the Blue Note and Jamboree Jazz Club in Barcelona.
As an educator Oscar has worked at Sergio Arboleda University for 4 years and currently he is an adjunct piano instructor at New York University (2 years).
