I began studying astrology in 2010 after moving to a remote area for a change of scenery and received my certification from The School of Evolutionary Astrology in 2013. On a personal level, I started looking into astrology because I felt my sign didn’t hit every angle of my being. When I read about other signs growing up, I always felt a part of me identified with each of them. I began my studies with the intention of discovering for myself if astrology was “for real” and it lead me to a treasure trove of self-discovery. A common misconception about astrology is that it will tell you your future and it’s set in stone. In medieval times, when astronomers and astrologers were one in the same, astrology was only practiced with royalty to discern the potential of an heir. Those times were fragile for humanity day to day, and had a tendency to view cause and effect on a fatalistic scale. Centuries later, the understanding of Astrology and its concepts have evolved. Particularly in Evolutionary Astrology, each soul has free will, there is no sealed fate. What it does show us is the potential of each soul. The planets provide the energy to produce the opportunities for the potential, the soul gets to choose to take it and if so, how it takes it. It is my belief that astrology provides an empowering method of self-discovery. It is a central focus in my teaching to create an encouraging and safe atmosphere that allows students to look at dynamics in their lives and not only understand the root of it, but provide practical tools that help heal and lead to solutions. With this, I maintain a comfortable pace when working with more sensitive topics and areas of experience to prevent overwhelm. Although astrology is a metaphysical and occult subject, my approach in teaching does not stray from “the real world”, so to speak. My students aren’t left in the fog deciphering whimsical metaphors that they can’t apply to their everyday life. They gain through each lesson a more comprehensive understanding to what they can utilize as a universal language. My rule of thumb is that if you can label opposing themes, hot vs. cold or wet vs. dry, then you can l learn astrology.
