Noah has been teaching children privately and in an after school enrichment setting since 2007. He likes hearing corny jokes and his favorite bands include Pearl Jam, Outkast, and David Bowie. He is currently studying Music Therapy at Marylhurst University. While working for an after school program in Los Angeles, Noah was given five laptops and a load of electronic instruments with which to create an enrichment class. The result was "The Future of Music," an electronic music class integrating songwriting, production, composition, and performance. This opportunity to help kids express themselves musically grew into a passion, and soon Noah was teaching guitar, bass, and drums. Currently, he is taking this passion to the next level by studying Music Therapy at Marylhurst University. His love of music began with the trumpet in 6th grade. After starting guitar lessons at the age of 13, he was soon playing piano, bass, and drums. From 2005-10 Noah played shows across the city of Los Angeles in various bands and recording a number of albums. *** Lesson Details *** Everyone has different learning styles and musical interests, and my job as a teacher is be sensitive to each student. I develop a unique curriculum for everyone I teach that caters to the goals that we decide on together. My greatest strength as a teacher is my understanding the the lesson is not about me - it's all about YOU! In a typical lesson we will start with basic technical exercises to warm up - scales, arpeggios, and rhythm drills. Each week there will be a piece to practice at home, and after warming up, we review this piece together and make sure we are making consistent progress towards our goals. The last part of the lesson can be dedicated to improvising, learning popular songs, or dealing with specific questions about the instrument or craft of musicianship. I love to emphasize improvisation and songwriting from the beginning so that students can experience the amazing feeling of writing and playing their own songs. My favorite genres to teach are rock and pop - these are the easiest to connect to as a student begins aquiring skills on their instrument. I expect my students to practice consistently - five minutes daily is better than one hour on the day before the lesson. The only way to make progress is to PRACTICE! Playing an instrument has many wonderful benefits. It is a great way to improve your hand/eye coordination, learn about new cultures, develop teamwork skills, and make friends. Let's get started! *** Travel Equipment *** The student should provide their instrument. I provide lesson plans, music, and worksheets. *** Specialties *** *Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.I like to utilize improvisation in my teaching from the start so that the student is creating their own style.
