In Music Theory specific lessons, we'll focus on digging deep into music to understand it's parts (melody, harmony and rhythm) and how those parts work together to create the music we all love to listen to and play!
These lessons are ideal for:
- Lead players looking to develop more captivating ideas
- Chordal instrumentalists like guitarists and pianists looking to expand their harmonic options and voicings
- Improvisers of all levels
- Songwriters looking to increase the impact of their songs
- Producers struggling to create interesting chord progressions and hooks
- Aspiring composers and arrangers
What to expect based on level:
- Beginner: We'll focus on absolute fundamentals like musical alphabet, accidentals, major scales, pentatonics, intervals, triads, simple rhythms and simple meters, intro to functional harmony and basic chord progressions.
-Intermediates: For those comfortable with the materials in the beginner level, we'll focus on minor scales, other triads, intro to 7th chords, modal interchange (modal mixture), secondary dominants, further discussion of functional harmony, more complex rhythms such as triplets as well as compound meters, melodic and harmonic analysis, writing chord progressions and melodies as well as simple chord substitutions.
Advanced: This is the truly exciting and interesting stuff! We'll learn about modes of the major scale, harmonic minor scale and melodic minor scale as well as other exotic scales, study of advanced 7th chords as well as upper extensions, hybrid chords and polychords, advanced rhythms like pentuplets and septuplets, melodic and harmonic analysis of more complicated music, deeper study of form and variation, advanced chord substitutions, more melodic development techniques, superimposition (playing one sound over another) and much more!
In all lessons there will be some reference to music history but this will be minimal and will mostly serve to show how music has expanded over time and to show the evolution of music theory and what has been deemed "acceptable" as well as how some rules have changed.
I'm very excited to help you learn music theory! Learning music theory will truly change the game for you and it's really like parting a fog once you start to understand how everything works and comes together. It is a MUST for musicians looking to take their craft to the next level.
I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

About Noah D.
Hello and thank you for showing interest in lessons with me! My name is Noah and I’ve been a musician for 15 years. I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with a Bachelors degree in Jazz composition. When I first started playing the guitar I loved 80’s and classic rock! Towards the end of middle school I discovered Jazz and fell in love with it and have been playing and studying it ever since! I’ve been a teacher for 7 years and love my job! Trust me, we’ll have a lot of fun learning whatever genre you’d like! We’ll listen to songs, learn them by ear and dissect them if you’d like, so you can learn how to write your own songs! If you’re interested in attending a top tier school like Berklee, I can help you prepare to guarantee you ace your audition and can even help you get ahead of the game by preparing you for your entrance exam so you can skip some entry level courses!
I love teaching and sharing the gift of music with the world and those who want to learn. If you’ve been wanting to get serious with the guitar for awhile, don’t hesitate anymore! I guarantee you’ll see a noticeable improvement with your playing within one month or LESS!
So let’s get started today!

Very happy with Noah. My son had taken guitar lessons from another private teacher for 7 years. Noah has the professional credential and is fully capable of teaching students of a great range of levels. The classes are pleasant, well structured, organized and tailored to student's skill and interest. I really expect to see my son make continued progress with Noah.

great patience and seeing actual results

Excellent teacher. Sets up for success by building a solid base to work off of.

Good start

Noahs a good dude. Very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Plenty of information/work to do and the progress is already showing.

My first lesson with Noah was a winner! I felt at ease with him right away, He took time to learn a bit about my background and my goals on bass, gave me some spot-on tips about what he saw in my current playing style and then a homework exercise to get started. As a teacher he's confident and encouraging and very easy to talk to despite a significant age difference between us (I'm much older!). Delighted with my choice of him as my instructor.

Gave great honest feedback. Had great understanding of what student will be required to do in auditions. Took his time to really understand the students interests and talent evaluation to develop a plan suited for them

Great experience!! Noah understood my musical needs and immediately started to help me with my skills limitations.

Noah is a very knowledgable, encouraging and patient teacher. I learned and progressed more with him in a few weeks than I had in years. I highly recommend Noah!

Noah gave good exercises that help with familiarity with the fretboard/technique, and it was nice to practice on songs that I chose

Very knowledge and great with my son.

Noah did a great job assessing where I'm at in my guitar journey and getting me working on just the right thing.

Noah is super nice, knowledgeable and talented. He does a great job teaching piano both theory and practical.

Noah was very personable, knowledgable and helpful. I am looking forward to more lessons with him.

Great teacher patient and knowledgeable.

Noah is the best guitar instructor I’ve ever had. As a self taught guitarist I needed some help with the basics, but was also ready to learn some more advanced topics. Noah ensured every lesson was interesting and engaging even when covering simple topics. He also made the more complex topics easy to understand. He was patient and helped me become a better guitarist and musician I ever would have become on my own.

As an adult, I came to him as a complete novice, and since day one Noah has been very patient and encouraging- balancing music theory with songs that interest me. He's been willing to adapt to my needs in order to accommodate my goals and expectations. A few months later, I can confidently say that I've exceeded all of my goals, and constantly advancing past what I thought I was capable of.
Thanks Noah!

I've only had my first lesson, and I'm a complete novice with the guitar (I'm an adult with some limited musical background). Noah asked me about my goals and musical interests so he could tailor the class to meet my needs. He taught me how to tune the guitar before getting into chords, finger placement, strumming technique, and reading the tabs. Throughout the class, he was incredibly patient, encouraging, and explained everything very clearly without over-complicating the topics. He gave me written "homework" to practice (which I now understand how to read!!). I'm really psyched for my next lesson and pleased that I chose Noah for my instructor.

Noah is by far the best teacher I've ever come across! Here's my story:
I was accepted into the Berklee College of Music as a Vocal Performance Major. However, my knowledge of theory, arranging, and harmony was nothing close to where it needed to be to succeed in my first semester. I ended my first semester with a 1.9 GPA. For the next semester, I was put on academic probation and was required to meet with a Berklee peer tutor once a week. This is where I met Noah. He was my peer tutor. Within our first session alone, I was immediately relieved that there was SOMEONE out that cared enough to take the time to really teach me everything that I needed to learn about theory, harmony, and arranging. He was extremely patient and kind. Where most students who were in my predicament dreaded to meet with their peer tutors weekly, I looked forward to meeting with Noah. In fact, I called the head of the tutoring department and asked if I could meet with Noah twice a week instead of once a week! Noah didn't hesitate, but instead agreed and we met twice a week! We even met for tutoring sessions when it wasn't required! He literally saved my second semester! I went from completely failing tests two getting A+ on all of my exams! At the end of that semester, I went from a 1.9 GPA to a 3.0 GPA!
Not only is Noah just amazing at everything theory, harmony, and arranging, composing, etc. and an amazing teacher that actually cares about his students, he's also an amazing musician! A multi-instrumentalist at that! I've had the pleasure of seeing him play multiple instruments in multiple styles and genres and he's by far the best musician I've ever come across. I would recommend him to anyone! Really! I'm not just saying this! If there is anyone you should be talking to or learning from in regards to all things music, Noah is the guy to go to!
THANK YOU NOAH!!!
