With most teachers, practicing an instrument as a beginner can feel like a chore. It is my mission to make practicing guitar the highlight of your day, every single step of the way.

When I first started learning guitar, I convinced myself that I was going to give up at least once a week. This is because I hadn't yet discovered the secret to learning music the fun way. I'll tell you that secret, which I didn't realize until 6 years into playing for various bands: being a good musician is not about mastering technic, knowing the names of all the scales and rhythms, or being able to move your fingers in the fastest or hardest ways. Being a good musician is about loving music. If you can connect to what you're playing, you will create beautiful sounds. It's as simple as that.

In our lessons, you'll connect to what we're playing because you will take the reins: we'll start by learning the music you love. We can find a way to tailor any song you love to your skill level so that you can play something beautiful regardless of your skill set. You will quickly watch your skill set expand.

If you don't know where to start, I have enough knowledge and experience of music to put you exactly where you need to be.

I have four years of experience in a Jazz Ensemble, three years of classes in music theory, and two years of experience in a cover band focusing mainly on rock, folk, and r&b. My favorite artist to play is Jimi Hendrix.

About Nina S.

I'm Nina: the most fun teacher you'll ever have.

The learning that sticks with us the best is the learning that we enjoy the most. No matter our subject, my goal is to make you passionate. I teach courses in music, language, and arts- because these three things are the love of my life. I want to make you love them as much as I do. I want to show you how cool these things really are, get you excited, and have you leaving every lesson feeling accomplished.

My daughter said she loved Nina. She lost interest with guitar with her last guitar teacher. I think she prefers a female teacher (who likes cool songs!)

I learned with Nina before she got on Take Lessons. Nina is incredibly experienced and plays guitar beautifully, and I greatly appreciate her teaching process- she was able to relate to my challenges as a beginner and help me figure out great ways to overcome the barriers beginners face as they are getting started. Nina has a great repertoire of songs she draws on to match specific techniques, while also greatly factoring in my interests in what we learned. Nina was patient with me and willing to provide thoughtful feedback. While I am learning virtually, which complicates the way we have to learn, but Nina's FaceTime/zoom set up was great and I have still been able to learn (almost 100%) as well as I would have in person. I could not recommend Nina as a teacher more!

House Band

For two years, I played in a rock, r&b, and cover band composed by some childhood friends and I. It was one of the most fun experiences in my life! We played all sorts of music at live at events.

Friends' Jazz Ensemble

For four years I was a guitarist in a local Jazz ensemble. I played pieces from Miles Davis to Jimi Hendrix. Jazz is packed with complex music theory, intricate rhythms, and chords that most guitarists have never seen elsewhere. This experience took my playing to the next level, and gave me advanced skills that I delight in passing on to my students.
