A true educator has the magic to teach. A teacher is one who understands they will not always be proficient in their profession but has a thirst to learn how to be. Every new teacher wants to learn every book, every trade, every trick, and every lesson. There is this idea or concept from the community that believes every teacher is a master at their subject and every student that receives a high grade in class must be doing extremely well. However, we need to view teaching as a craft. Grades do not define a classroom. As students move from one grade to another, teachers are responsible for shaping them into the creative individuals they are going to become. As a teacher, I hope to motivate students in ascertaining their inner strengths and abilities and discovering what truly inspires them. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions while fostering confidence in order for students to realize their full potential.   Through my teaching experience thus far for New York City Schools, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have found that if students construct their own learning experiences they will not only retain information longer, but they will become more confident in their abilities. Being devoted to this assertion, confirms that I have made the right career choice for myself. I have come to realize how vital education is in all endeavors set before them and I will continue to strive to be a positive influence in students’ lives. I hope to instill a love of learning and a desire for constant knowledge within each student. Education isn’t a perfect world but when teachers begin to craft literate lives in the classroom, there is a chance to create lifelong learners.
