I will lead you through all levels of French (grammar, vocabulary, conversation, culture and more - you tell me what you want to work on!).

I will use such learning tools as French comics, TV, commercials, books and more - everyday entertainment you would see around France!

I place the highest priority on what YOU want to learn, so please be very specific in telling me what you're after and we'll work together to create your curriculum.

About Nicola R.

Hi everyone! I'm Nicola, and I teach both French and acting. I've been teaching French since 2011 and acting since 2013. I have my bachelor's degree in French from Columbia University and my master's degree in the history of theatre from the Sorbonne-Nouvelle University in France.

I teach a few different kinds of classes: French classes and acting classes, of course, to students of ALL ages and levels. (I don't usually teach under age 4, but never say never, I suppose. I also teach adults!) I believe having fun and playing is key to learning. The more relaxed and open you are, the better you're going to do, whether it's in language acquisition or learning to be a character in a play.

I also teach arts-and-crafts classes geared toward younger kids, which is something I've been doing with the New York and Boston Public Libraries for the last decade. I recently invented the Draw-A-Story class for young kids, which combines drawing and storytelling, two activities that are both important and fun!

Last but not least, a fun fact about me: I'm a professional film director. I have a feeling I may roll out a screenwriting class sometime in the near future!

I have been working with Nicola for the past 4 months and I would highly recommend her for anyone that is completely new to the French language. She is very flexible and willing to design the lesson to meet your goals. Nicola has a way of making learning a new language interesting, fun and non-intimidating. I have done both in-person and online lessons with Nicola and I find that both are equally as effective. I would highly recommend her for anyone looking for a French tutor.

Nicola has been tutoring my daughter in 7th grade French. She’s wonderful, speaks like a native, and is very reliable. My daughter’s French grade has improved dramatically! We are very happy with her, and highly recommend her to all.

We've only had one lesson but Nicola is smart and great at explaining as she goes. I'm an adult and love her teaching style, and I could also see her being great with kids!

Nicola is a terrific teacher. She takes the time to find out what your specific goals and needs are and then structures the instruction around that. She's upbeat and creative--fun to learn from.

I had a great first session! I am confident that, with her help, I will be able to accomplish my goal; to finish the book written in French.

I reached out to Nicola because my daughter felt that she needed help building a foundation for her French. Nicola has been working with my daughter on grammar, reading comprehension, conversation, and much more. My daughter finds Nicola’s lesson engaging and effective. It was initially our summer project but we will continue during school year. I highly recommend Nicola!

Nicola approaches each lesson very thoughtfully and creatively, catering to my preferences and learning style. I appreciate the flexibility in her teaching style and that we're not just limited to a series of lessons in a book. It's been fun to learn with her!

Nicola is an excellent instructor! Our classes were not only fun and engaging, but offered hands-on practice in really practical topics and vocabulary. She brings the wisdom and knowledge of having spent time in day-to-day situations and offers that in her lessons. It makes classes not only interesting but incredibly useful. I appreciated that classes focused heavily on speaking and listening while also learning new vocabulary and reviewing grammar and tenses. Plus, not only is Nicola an excellent teacher, she's also an all-around kind, fun person to get to know and be around.

Nicola is an excellent teacher. Previous French classes only improved my reading and writing skills, but with Nicola not only did those skills improve, but I feel more confident listening and verbally responding to native speakers. She is willing to design her lesson plans around each students goals and does not just base each lesson around general handouts and worksheets. Can’t recommend her enough.

Nicola is an amazing teacher. I've taken French classes and some private lessons with Nicola and I've always come out learning new French vocabulary, verbs, slang and etc. Her passion and enthusiasm makes the lesson so interesting. What got me excited was that she taught me French by using the BD (Bande Dessinee) aka French comics. I highly recommend Nicola!!

Nicola is a wonderful french teacher, and it was a pleasure taking classes with her. I took french throughout school, and I wanted to relearn and practice after I had been away from the language for a while. In our lessons, Nicola thoroughly reviewed concepts I knew to get me up to speed, and taught me new words, grammar, etc. She went at my pace, often checking in with me to review what we had just been over to make sure I understood. Nicola suggested a variety of interesting supplemental material in different formats (books, videos, etc.) that were fun to review outside of class. She is a very kind and dynamic person, and it was a pleasure getting to know her in general.

Nicola is a delightful teacher. I've had the privilege of having her in a classroom set and in one-on-one and she was so knowledgeable and patient and sweet. She knows how to intertwine our personal interests with her lessons plans and that helps the lessons to be better absorbed. I loved reading French books with her.

After a long hiatus from studying French in high school, Nicola was the perfect person to guide me back into the subject. She was enthusiastic, positive and put me entirely at ease - she was able to identify ways to challenge and motivate me in equal measure and made each lesson a pure pleasure!

Nicola is obviously very passionate about the language and I had fun with her reading French graphic novels and chatting about our lives and current events en francais. I would recommend her to beginners and those like myself, who studied French/lived in France but need a refresher and a conversation partner.

I am a native language French speaker, growing up speaking only French.
I recently took a course in a classroom setting,
luckily enough with Nicola as the instructor.
I was and am impressed with Nicola's knowledge, pronounciation, patience,
enthusiasm and overall upbeat approach.
By having one on one conversation
Nicola has helped me rekindle my native
knowledge to the point of confidence
and willingness to speak and even write.
I recommed Nicola to anyone who seriously
wants to learn and enjoy French.
