I've been playing guitar since I was 9. I'm from Washington, DC originally and have been based in Philadelphia since 2010. Living in such eclectic cities has introduced me to a wide variety of musical styles and has taught me to appreciate them all. I've played in rock, funk, go-go, folk, bossa nova, choro, hip hop and jazz groups and have studied classical and jazz styles at Temple University. I'm still currently enrolled at Temple finishing up a degree in Music Education with Jazz Studies. I've been teaching since early high school and have always loved doing so. My students have ranged from ages 5 to 50 and I've had a blast playing with all of them. *** Lesson Details *** I've taught students in so many different settings and with such different backgrounds that it's hard for me to give an accurate description of my lessons without knowing who the student is. I believe what's powerful about music is the balance it maintains between the personal and the universal. Keeping this in mind, I try to engage my students mostly in what they find connects to them in music and I try to help them build this on top of a more standard musical foundation. *** Studio Equipment *** I will provide some books, a metronome, a music stand and can provide an amp/cable if necessary. Students will need their own guitar and to purchase their books if necessary. *** Specialties *** Jazz, classical, rock, funk and Latin styles.
