    About Nicholas S.

Having performed most of his life, Nick Savage seems to be effortlessly skilled as a drummer, keyboardist, singer, and songwriter. Nick has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with great performers, such as, Tony award winning Beth Leveal, American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini, Gavin Degraw, John Scofield, Joshua Redman, Lou Donaldson, Lonnie Smith, Jeff Coffin, Victor Goines, Joe Lavano, and many more reputable artists. His notable performances in St. Louis, nationally, and internationally have led him to a mastery of the elements of good music. In addition, this has developed him into one of St. Louis’ strongest composers, arrangers, educators, and clinicians from behind the drum kit and the soundboard. Nick received his Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Music in Jazz Performance from Webster University. To date, Nick has played, performed, and/or produced on over 100 recordings. To date Nick serves in the following positions: lead singer and drummer for St. Louis band Fresh Heir, percussion and drum kit instrumentalist at Salem United Methodist Church, the Program Director and Lead Instructor for LINC to Music, LLC, The Music Director at Sacred Heart School in Valley Park, the Lead Drum Instructor at Kirkwood Music Institute, the drum kit and percussion instructor at De Smet Jesuit College Prep High School and the Lead Consultant for Diamond Empire Band St. Louis.

Webster University High School Jazz Ensemble

Webster University, well-known for its innovative jazz studies program and the Jazz@Webster concert series, is offering a new program for high school jazz students during the school year at its Webster Groves campus. Under the leadership of Paul DeMarinis, Webster’s Jazz Studies Director, and Nick Savage, Jazz Ensemble Director, rising young jazz musicians will work on improving their improvisational skills, ensemble interaction, and personal musicianship. All melodic instruments are welcome to participate and experience a variety of jazz styles from the 1930s to the present. Students who have enjoyed the Webster Jazz Camp will love the opportunity to continue working with St. Louis area professional jazz musicians throughout the year. This ensemble is a part of the Department of Music at Webster University and is administered with the assistance of the Community Music School of Webster University.

    Arch Diocese Of St. Louis

The Archdiocesan Safe Environment Office and the Office of Child and Youth Protection are committed full-time to the prevention of sexual abuse of minors in the Church, to the promotion of safety for children and young people, and to the ongoing care of those who have suffered sexual abuse. Since 2002, over 100,000 adults who are employed by or volunteer in our parishes and institutions, and who, in the course of their service to the Church, are in the presence of minors, have participated in the professionally developed and presented program entitled Protecting God’s Children. The program equips those who serve the Church to recognize questionable behavior, to implement best practices for the safety of our children, and to take the necessary steps to address even the suspicion that a cleric or other Church worker has done something inappropriate or wrong.

    National Catholic Education Association

NCEA is the largest, private professional education association in the world. NCEA works with Catholic educators to support ongoing faith formation and the teaching mission of the Catholic Church. Our membership includes more than 150,000 educators serving 1.9 million students in Catholic education. As a professional association whose focus is Catholic school education, NCEA’s focus is to lead, learn and proclaim by: •Developing current and future leaders; •Providing educational resources and strategically expanding professional development opportunities for those committed to the mission of Catholic education; and •Serving as the national voice for Catholic schools. Brief History of the NCEA NCEA traces its official beginning to a meeting held in St. Louis, Missouri, July 12-14, 1904. At that meeting the separate Catholic education organizations; the Education Conference of Catholic Seminary Faculties (1898), the Association of Catholic Colleges (1899), and the Parish School Conference (1902) agreed to unite as the Catholic Educational Association (CEA). From then until 1919, the CEA was the only unifying agent for Catholic education at the national level. In 1919, the establishment of the National Catholic War Council (NCWC) - later changed to National Catholic Welfare Council to serve as an agency of the American bishops to coordinate all Catholic activity, including education - marked a new era for CEA. A working relationship of independent cooperation between CEA and the Department of Education of NCWC was established that endures with the NCW successor, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). In 1927, the word "national" was added to the official title and, in 1929, NCEA headquarters moved to Washington, D.C., to be in proximity to other national secular agencies of education. NCEA began a policy of friendly cooperation with other private and public educational associations and federal government agencies in the service of all aspects of American education. At present, NCEA focuses on: leadership development for superintendents, presidents, principals, pastors, and governing bodies; professional development for teachers; and serving as the voice for Catholic school education.
