    About Nicholas M.

After I began to play the cello in 2000, I auditioned for the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2004. From 2004-2005, I was selected to play in one of BYSO’s ensembles under the direction of Bonnie Black. In the Spring of 2005, this orchestra was also invited to play at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA. During the 2005-2006 season, I then attended the New England Conservatory’s Youth Preparatory Program playing under conductor Adam Grossman. Throughout the next two years (2006-2008), I also played at the New England Conservatory with the Youth Repertory Orchestra, led by Jane Ezbicki. Playing with these orchestras, I also performed all of the New England Conservatory concerts in NEC’s Jordan Hall in Boston, MA. Throughout my time of performing, I have participated in many orchestras, small ensembles, and solo performances being selected as a principal cellist, assistant principal cellist, and solo artist for local and statewide concerts and events. In addition, I was selected for New Hampshire’s All-State Orchestra for six years in a row, and was also selected for New Hampshire’s Chamber All-State Orchestra. For private instruction, I have studied under Joy Schutze from 2002-2004, Gary Hodges from 2004-2005, and Larry Veal at the University of New Hampshire from 2005-2009. In May 2012 I graduated from The Master's College in Santa Clarita, CA where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Languages and a minor in Bible. During my time at the college, I played under the direction of Dr. Paul Plew and Dr. Steve Opfer in The Master's College Orchestra, and studied under world-renowned cellist, Janet Shulman. In 2016, I graduated at The Master’s Seminary in Sun Valley, CA with a Master of Divinity. Today I serve as Associate Pastor of Student Ministries at Highland Hills Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, MI and still love playing and teaching the cello! It would be my great joy and honor to meet you and see you grow in your love for playing the cello, too!
