Improve on your clarinet technique and performance repertoire

When asked “why do I teach music,” the answer stems from two main reasons: (1) I want to prompt a lifelong love for music in the lives of students, and (2) I am self-motivated to learn more from the vastness of musical experiences. Music has the ability to reach a wide variety of people from different cultures, ideologies, religion, and nationalities. It is a uniquely human experience that can’t be limited to a single person or group and, personally, there is nothing that comes close to the extent of music’s reach. It is an essential part of humanity. In my lessons, students can expect a wholistic approach to the clarinet. Students will not only develop their technical approach to the clarinet but have an understanding behind repertoire, pedagogy, mechanics, and the why behind our love for music.

    About Nicholas L.

Nicholas Lorenzo is a clarinetist and music educator born in Miami, Florida, and now situated in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is ecstatic to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to study with Dr. Andy Hudson and Dr. Anthony Taylor, while being a member of the exceptional clarinet studio. Nicholas plans to grow as a clarinetist, educator, and overall professional throughout his time here at UNCG. Nicholas found a love for music and clarinet while attending Belen Jesuit Preparatory with his instructors Ms. Marlene Urbay and Mr. Juan Carlos Ledon. To pursue music further, Nicholas attended the University of Miami Frost School of Music where he studied under Dr. Margaret Donaghue and Dr. Jesse Gilday. Throughout his time there, Nicholas performed with the Symphonic Band, Band of the Hour, and Clarinet Choir, all while completing his degree requirements for music education. In 2018, Nicholas graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelors in Degree in Music Education and began his professional career as a dedicated educator. Throughout his three years teaching at Mater Academy Cutler Bay, Nicholas taught Kindergarten through 5th grade elementary general music, middle and high school beginning band, concert band, jazz band, and modern band. Nicholas has performed at the Music Academy International Festival in Mezzano, Italy, and the Killington Music Festival in Killington, Vermont, where he was involved in orchestral, opera, musical theater, and chamber music ensemble settings, in addition to solo performances. Nicholas is currently a member of the Amplify Winds Clarinet Quartet and the UNCG Wind Ensemble. Nicholas, also known as SPC Lorenzo, is also a member of the United States Armed Forces. He serves as a Clarinetist in the 208th Army Band out of Concord, North Carolina and looks forward to a long career serving his country. In addition, Nicholas is the Head Music Writer for Stage Hoppers, an electronic dance music community and news outlet. Nicholas is always an avid dog lover, and loves spending lazy weekends at home with his girlfriend Emily and their american bulldog mix Molly.
