Nick (b. 1987 in New York City) composes, produces, performs and records music for live presentation, film, video, and dance. He began performing at age 9 around his hometown of Asheville, NC, and won a number of prestigious awards and scholarships.
In 2004, still in high school, Nick composed original jazz pieces for his jazz trio. The prestigious Jazz Composers Forum debuted the combo, which then played a variety of high-profile events through 2006.
In January 2006 Nick performed at The International Jazz Festival Lapataia in Punta del Este, Uruguay with jazz saxophonist Alex Han.
Nick's acoustic/electronic "The Orphan Girl -- Nenneh" was presented at the gala re-opening of newly restored Aycock Auditiorium at UNC-Greensboro. The UNCG Symphony Orchestra, with guest conductor Eduardo Vargas, premiered his composition "Interstate 40" in 2010. Later that year Nick received his degree in Music Composition.
In 2012, he released an album of original songs and compositions, entitled "Foolish Fantasy."
He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, where he works full-time performing, composing, and teaching music.
*** Lesson Details ***
I do not believe in a one-size fits all philosophy when it comes to piano lessons. I tailor-fit all my lessons to the particular student's goals.
Students find my demeanor laid-back, personal, upfront, and patient.
I like to incorporate tidbits of relevant music history to contextualize the music we work on. To me, it keeps things more interesting!
Sometimes lesson books may not be necessary. When appropriate, I prefer teaching from the Bastien book series.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha Acoustic Upright Piano!
Roland RD-300NX full size weighted keyboard w/ ivory feel.
*** Travel Equipment ***
The student must have access to his or her own keyboard (electric or acoustic acceptable)
*** Specialties ***
I prefer to teach the Bastien method to my younger students! I am proficient in blues, jazz, RnB, rock, pop, gospel, and classical.
I've taught a large amount of private and group lessons at this music academy in Queens and Brooklyn
I have taught privately since 2005.
Our son is very much enjoying piano lessons with Nicholas. He recommended instruction books for learning to read musical notation and he is making great progress.
Very good instructor. Looking forward to future lessons.
Nick teaches my 6 year old son, Teddy piano and he is really truly wonderful. He's so patient with my son and gets him back in focus when Teddy tries to talk about mine craft or some other subject not related to piano. Teddy loves him and has learned a lot from him. I highly recommend Nick!+ Read More
I am an older adult returning to the piano after a long absence. Nick has been a great instructor who offers sound advice so I can make measurable improvements each week. He has a natural talent for bringing out the beauty and nuances of each piece I work on, and he's patient and fun as well. I would readily recommend him.+ Read More
Nick teaches my 7 year old piano. He is patient and kind while getting lots of information across to her. Nick makes the lessons fun and engaging. You couldn't find a better instructor in Nick!!
my 11 year old has been taking lessons with Nick for a year and a half, and I recommended him to my best friend whose 7 year old has been working with him for a year. Thought the kids have quite different personalities, one more serious, one more animated, both kids love him. He couldn't be a kinder, more approachable, or flexible person, and is a super dedicated teacher. I wholeheartedly recommend him. He talks to the kids about the lesson, responds to questions during the week, and pushes to the extent the kid is open to it, encouraging them all the way. He's also super talented! A wonderful wonderful guy and teacher.+ Read More
