Get an A on Your Geometry Class with an MIT Tutor

I am an MIT tutor specializing in math and science, and I have taught math anywhere between pre-algebra and calculus (including geometry) for 5 years. I have received perfect scores on both SAT Math, ACT Math, and SAT Math Level 2 (SAT Subject Test). I have taken AP Calculus BC while in high school, and I have taken Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT, and I actively participated in many math competitions through elementary, middle, and high schools. Before the lessons, I like to talk with parents, students, and/or teachers to fully gauge what they have been struggling with and how to best help them. Then I identify the student's gap in knowledge while helping them complete their homework and give them additional drilling problems as needed to help them fully master the materials and do well on their tests. I always carry around books containing extra problems depending on the students' levels and goals. I also often introduce relevant SAT Math, ACT Math, and SAT Math 2 problems to help them prepare for these test as well. Since geometry questions, especially proofs, are not very obvious, I often gift students a list of things to look for to help them identify how to approach the proofs, I have taught students anywhere from 4th grade to adults, including college algebra. I especially have extensive experience with gifted students, and I also have helped students with the math competition problems, such as AMC and Kangaroo Math. For the best results, I recommend 1.5-hour of lessons twice a week. However, this will also depend on the student's mathematical background. If this schedule does not work for you though, I would love to discuss with you so that we can come up with schedule that works well for you. I'm an MIT tutor specializing in math, science, and test prep and many of my students have gone on to study at Ivy Leagues, MIT, and McGill. Many of my students have also gotten 800 on both SAT Math and SAT Math 2, 750+ on SAT Reading and Writing, and 5's on the AP exams even in the midst of pandemic! I've been privileged to help students attending some of the most competitive high schools in the U.S., including Phillips Exeter, Phillips Academy, Milton Academy, BB&N, Boston Latin School, Lexington High School, Arlington High School, Belmont High School, Brookline High School, Cambridge Ridge and Latin, Newton North High School, Newton South High School, and Wellesley High School. I also have taken Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT and had been an active member of math team from elementary to high school. My sister and I solve math problems for fun in our spare time. Many students and parents love working with me, and I love working with them, too! The testimonials below confirm their excellent experiences. "No doubt my son has shared that today he got his AP score. He received a 5! He is so proud, as are we. He told us, even before the exam, that this has been his single best experience in math. You have definitely made a difference in his appetite for the subject, and obviously he has had a great year. Thank you! I hope you are safe in these pandemic times. We definitely look forward to working with you in the near future!" - D., Newton, MA “So happy to let you know that my son passed the placement test and is now in honors math! We are so grateful to you, as he would have not been able to reach this goal without you! You are such an important teacher and role model for both of our children. Many thanks for all you do for our kids. I feel so lucky that we found you.” - S., Newton, MA “I got 780 on SAT Chemistry and 800 on SAT Math 2!” - J., Wellesley, MA (an AP Chem and Honors Precalculus student) "Thank you so much for helping my daughter!  Her feedback was really positive.  We are really glad that we found you." - P., San Francisco, CA (a father of an Honors Precalculus student) I believe in in-depth learning. In-depth learning helps my student build the foundation necessary to succeed in their future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, many of my lessons feature derivation of formulas. For the lessons that do not involve formulas, I present a few simple concepts from which we can derive and solve many other problems. My lessons also feature numerous questions to enhance student engagement and to improve student confidence of having them solve the problem on their own as much as possible. I then drill my students with practice problems and get them to explain until I'm fully convinced that my students truly understood the material. Though I specialize in gifted students, I also have worked with students from all kinds of background. Most of my students are either high school or college students, but I also worked with younger students. I also helped some students implement organizational tips and develop study skills necessary to succeed in their future classes. My students are from all over the world--China, France, Korea, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Vietnam, and United States. To this day, my closest friends are still the international students. English is my second language as well, and I certainly empathize with students who struggle with the English language. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you think we may be good fit!

Nayoon took my daughter from a failing grade to an “A”. I am indebted to her. My daughter loves Nayoon because she is interested, kind & cheery. She is ten steps ahead and understands exactly what the teacher wants her to learn. But, more importantly, Nayoon taught her how to think and not just memorize. Nayoon doesn’t try to waste time or spread out a lesson. She cares more about my daughter learning & absorbing & being prepared! My daughter now wants to take the AP exam in chemistry because Nayoon made chemistry interesting & understandable. Thank you so much!!! Hilary Kramer
