Music begins with the body. We can begin by making it very comfortable to hold an instrument and produce sound. From here rhythm, melody, and song come naturally. My goal is to be there to help you absorb the music with as little obstruction and effort, making learning easy, enjoyable, and gratifying. *** Studio Equipment *** Guitar Hand Drums and Percussion various handmade wood flutes *** Travel Equipment *** Hand Drums and Percussion Saxophone various handmade wood flutes About my musical lifeline: Percussion is my latest love, and feels very true to my heart and purpose. This journey has been heavily inspired by a year of ceremonial music study in New York, as well as a recent month-long trip to Morocco, where I studied with masters who hold centuries-old lineage. To me, percussion is about using the whole body, filling a space, and moving between raucous excitement and quiet tenderness. Upon my first visit to North Africa, my fixation on saxophone re-fixed on ancient wood flutes. I now make Moroccan Neira and Ney flutes. Flute is now my preferred instrument of melodic expression, one of the most ancient forms of music, the drum's sibling. Guitar has always been a very personal instrument for me -- one that I play in order to relax, rejoice with friends, or explore my thoughts and emotions. I would say that I am a folk guitar player, only because all of my experience has been with folk! That said, I know some jazz and pop songs, as well. As a saxophone player, I have toured with two different groups nationwide, and played live shows with even more. I've also played on professional recordings. While my background is based on theory and written music, the majority of my saxophone career has been a search for expression, improvisation, spontaneity, and mutual creation with other musicians.
