I focus on the individual needs of each student, helping them craft a personal practice approach to meet their unique goals and aspirations. The wide-reaching diversity of my performance careers informs my teaching; I'm comfortable teaching classical guitar, jazz improvisation, finger style, folk music, electric guitar, sight-reading; all areas which have been the bread and butter of my 10+ year professional performing experience. I'm always excited to meet my students where they're at, be they first-time beginners or advanced players.

    About Nate H.

I'm a professional musician and doctoral classical guitar student based out of New York City! I have degrees in guitar performance from the Yale School of Music (M.M, M.M.A '19, '20) and the University of North Carolina (B.M. '16), where I've studied classical & jazz guitar, early music, and general music theory/history. I'm currently working towards a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University! While my academic studies have been focused on classical music, my performance career is stylistically broad - highlights include appearances as the electric guitar player with the Pittsburgh Opera & the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, recording and touring with the Americana-jazz band Ellis Dyson & the Shambles, 10+ years of musical theater pit orchestra performances, and countless one-off jazz/pop gigs. Classical guitar, sight-reading, and jazz improvisation are my specialties, but my teaching approach is focused on targeting the individual needs of each student and guiding them towards a unique, personalized practice methodology.
