Hello! I have been playing saxophone for over 15 years and I believe that music is a great way to express yourself. I am an environmental educator by day, saxophone player by night. As a teacher, I make sure that all of my students have fun playing music and develop a love for the saxophone, coupled with technical and listening skills. I'm excited to share my expertise with new students in the Twin Cities metro!

I attended New World School of the Arts for saxophone performance where I had the opportunity to play alongside Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Ron Carter, Duffy Jackson, James Moody, J.J.Johnson, and many more talented musicians. In 2005, our jazz band got first place at the Essentially Ellington competition in NYC. I attended St.Olaf College on a music scholarship where I played in the St. Olaf Band, the St.Olaf Jazz Band (Downbeat Magazine's Top Undergraduate Jazz Ensembles in 2011), and with several campus bands (funk, folk, you name it!) . I continue to play saxophone today with bands in the Twin Cities area and participate in blues jams in Minneapolis.

My daughter has made tremendous progress in a short time, and her love of playing the sax and jazz has returned! She loves her lessons and even likes to practice! We are so grateful to have found Natalie!

I highly recommend Natalie as a saxophone teacher. In working with my 12-year-old, I am impressed by the way Natalie consistently balances technical instruction and constructive feedback with genuine encouragement and transparent love for the instrument. Natalie coaches not just the playing of notes, but how to establish playing habits for long-term success: how to warm up, how to listen to others when playing in an ensemble, how to sit and hold the instrument with good body mechanics, how to breath, how to practice on your own, and most impressively, how to think and how to have fun! Natalie is a reflective teacher. She frequently makes observations like "I notice that you..." followed by "...and that's great because...," or "...because you're trying to do such-and-such, you are ... but here's a better way because..." My daughter comes away from each of her lessons feeling both challenged and happy. Under Natalie's kind and purposeful direction, she has made a lot of progress  in a short amount of time. To quote my daughter: "That was a great lesson!"
